Yes I saw this movie yesterday and LOVED it. I dont watch Much star trek otherwise, only when nothing else is on and I want to laugh at poor Special effects. But the cast did their part really well looking like younger versions of the original cast, and they worked so well together. I just loved the cast o_O simon pegg/nicholas angel as scotty was Epic. Sylar as kirk was genius...some random dude as spock was legendary. :p I loved the effects and story was ok I guess...leonard nimoys short appearance as F2T0R$ $P0CKZ was fun too.
Erm Sylar was Spock. Sorry to be picky but it's very very obvious
Ha, I noticed that too. And why are two people playing Scotty?

I am not a Trekkie or whatever they prefer to call them, I like Sci-fi as a whole and if forced to chose one I would select Stargate but since Star Trek has been about so long you can't like sci-fi and not at least like Star Trek.

Saw the movie last night and gotta say... meh!

As a sci-fi movie on it's own merits it was pretty good but the story driving the bad guy was just stupid and would only have required a tiny change in the way Spock handled things to have had it made a good deal more sense. The special effects were impressive, the scene where the fleet was leaving the Earth orbit space station was amazing, first time I have ever had a sense of just how massive the ships in the Star Trek world really are, however it YET AGAIN had a director who thinks massive close ups, constant jiggle cam and cutting from one thing to another quickly makes for a great action scene, it does not, I've always hated it and I hated it in this movie. Although I did like the fact that they did one or two Fireflyesque tracking shots.

As an addition to the Star Trek world though, uh no. I'll admit that Star Trek as it was had reached a point where it was hard to take it anywhere else. It required a new direction and whilst this was a brave attempt to do that it some how felt just wrong. Hard to explain why it felt wrong it just did.

Turned out alot better than I thought it would especially when all the actors actually acted so well they became the characters. Usual Star Trek storyline which is something different and interesting as well great visuals and I really loved the part with the black hole absorbing the planet, that was AWESOME!

It is a good movie I could watch again but not great, thats reserved for really great movies.

Simon Pegg once played a character named Nicholas Angel.

And he just mixed up saying Kirk and Spock. He meant, "Sylar as Spock was genius...some random dude as Kirk was legendary."

Watched it, loved it, watched it again, still loved it. Man this has to be my favourite trek film (alongside Wrath of Khan and First Contact). Although dare I say it, I actually think this is THE best trek film released.
Oh, I absolutely agree. Though my runners up are "Search for Spock" or "Final Frontier" for original cast and "Insurrection" for Next Gen.

watching that movies in theater was one of the best experiences of the year for me.
The movie was fun enough to watch and since i only watched the original star trek series i enjoyed how well they made Kirk ( i know people say the guy can't act and is a disgrace, but to me hes perfect for the role).
Also the reason why the movie was so good could have something to do with going to see it alongside 2 of the biggest trek fans (jean-luc Picard only really) who screamed the whole movie about how they made Spock fall in love with Uhura...it was crazy

I'v watched Star Trek casually for a long time, never got to the level of OMGfandom but I liked the shows. And while the movie was very good, it didn't really -FEEL- like Star Trek. Events progressed to quickly, there was very little character development, and it quickly started to feel more like a sci-fi action movie then Star Trek.

That isn't to say it wasn't good. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it wasn't really Star Trek.

I thought it was pretty good. Kind of split down the middle though; half of it runs perfectly in line with the canon of the characters and whatnot, while the other half blows up part of the ST universe. Ah well. It was pretty damn awesome.
