Cryptic announced the latest expansion for Star Trek Online today, titled "Agents of Yesterday." With it you'll be able to create a character from the 23rd century a la TOS, complete with era-appropriate missions, ships and voice work by Walter Koenig (Checkov) and Chris Doohan (son of James Doohan, aka "Scotty"). Time travel will play a role as well, with temporal-related skills, abilities and ships.

A suite of Federation vessels have already been revealed, consisting of both vintage and futuristic designs.

While I think it looks great, it's bound to get a bit strange seeing ships from such radically different eras flying side by side.

Obligatory reference:

Looks at above picture.

Yep, I agree with that line.

I'm surprised that the fabric of space/time hasn't blown up yet in this universe.

Either that or grind a crapton of dilithium. I may find STO's F2P business model overly pricey, but at least there are free (if time-consuming) alternatives.

So will there be playable "classic" klingons without the cornish pasty heads then?
Given there are old school NPC Klingons in the trailer, I'd say there's a very good chance. If not, I'd imagine it would be fairly easy to make a homebrew version by selecting "Alien" when creating a new character. Some creative players have made convincing look-alikes of non-playable species this way.
