I've just recently gotten into PC gaming and I just started an account on steam. Anybody have any advice to give me? Good games for the service and what not?

Alien Swarm is free on there. Get it.

Also, if you haven't yet, Orange Box.

I generally check out the specials they have as well as the "Under $10" section.

just watch for the big deals and always check to see what your computer can safely run before making a purchase.

Here's a list of some free stuff: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=851573

As for other games I recommend the orange box if your computer can handle it.

Protip for Telltale Games stuff: ALWAYS buy Telltale Games games from telltalegames.com, otherwise you'll miss out on the hard copy for the price of shipping.

Well the above advice is very good advice to follow. But for checking the specs, I find that a website called, "canirunit.com" is very useful. Hopefully it has the game you are looking for, but if not, you could just manually check your specs. Also, it helps if you look at the forums of some games to get an idea of the problems it may have. These can be extra DRMs that make the game unplayable, glitches, etc. Basically, research your product before you buy. But yeah, TF2 is a safe bet. So is Alien Swarm. If you need a friend, my Steam account is linked to my profile. Look me up!

EDIT: Oh yeah... can't forget about Killing Floor. That game is pretty awesome. :D

Buying at full price is one of those "do you REALLY want it that badly?" propositions. Just about everything goes on sale, usually at a DEEP discount, so if you bargain-hunt you can build a big collection for not much money.
