Well seeing as today, most gaming franchises are pretty much dead. =) Sonic unleashed is bull, Nintendo has joined the dark side of gaming with games that are "Simple" and "Ideal for the whole Family". And No More Heroes 2 Isn't due for a long time ( Sad face =( )

I'd like to see if anyone can come up with an original and well appealing Idea for a new game. =3 Whether it be just a character that could be milked for millions or a fully planned out mind blowing epic series.

I have a character in mind that would appeal to a more cynical group of people, intended for M rated games.

A boy who looks to be in his teens carrying a chain wrapped, cloth wrapped, rusty scythe with long, spiky and disheveled black hair and Red eyes, Skinny and in a black suit. Fast and acrobatic but with a unique ability to manipulate blood to a non game killing degree. =3 His name is Zahri, he's my image of what would be an epic game character, and i have a picture that more pretty much depicts him 90%.

I guess it's weird but it's what i would like to see

I wanna see what everyone here can come up with =3 Post and comment

I'd say a game that strayed away from the ideal that you have to be either good or evil, and it makes you feel like an asshole for being a good guy.

So it FORCES you to be evil, but there are multiple endings depending how evil you are?

I think all the game ideas have been done.

WAIT, I HAVE ONE!

An MMO, except instead of violence, it would be like real world business. So, people can run their own businesses/do jobs for other players and stuff like that. It would be multi-faceted as in you could branch out into any business you want, even real estate. It would need an active staff and team though, cause the way things go should affect the way the world develops. (E.G., a stock market crash.)

I dunno, seems half developed to me. Original, probably. Anyone know a game that's done that already?

Ever play no more heroes? xD You're evil no matter what but there's 2 endings =3 though there's no degree of being super evil or normal evil, it's a linear storyline.

Anyways, i'm sure i've heard of a game like that somewhere though i can't remember =(

I's an anime fan =3.
I suppose it'd be suited towards final fantasy type play, though i'd see it as more real time and some incredible gore effects considering my guy uses blood and a scythe as his means to fight =3

That kind of sounds like God of War now lol. I think I want an platformer type game. Kind of like the Prince of Persia games, but where you have to do everything and it's not just a one button type thing. Like it'd be about timing and then tying the fighting in with it too. So you can bounce off walls and kill stuff. Yeah I think that'd be awesome.

just as long as the character is well rounded person that didn't drink to much milk as a child... ya know the way most game characters fall 90 story's pinwheel face first into concrete and walk away like it was a step over a peace of paper...

ie fable most final fantasy's star wars the force unleashed etc

A free-roaming game where you play a Neo-style ultra powerful martial artist. You could develop your skills, pick the arts you wanted to learn and acquire special abilities.

Actually, I have a whole thing written out. My idea would be to acquire the Hunter X Hunter license for it, since Nen abilities (I think) could work really well in a free-roaming environment.

There would be different cities, like Midnight Club. In each city, there would be a certain couple of dojos where you could train in the skills you wanted. At the start of the game, you'd pick one of the five starting "types" of nen ability. "Specialist" abilities could be gained later on as your character leveled up their skills.

Enhancers would play the game like The Incredible Hulk in Ultimate Destruction. Emitters would use more SF2 Hadouken and DBZ-type stuff, and Conjurers would fight sort of like a Bleach or JoJo's Bizarre Adventure character. I'm not sure what I'd do for the others, but I wrote out some various skills and stuff for each class. Oh, and there would be weapons, both real and makeshift.

I have way too much free time.

I posted this story before but here goes.
It's about a seventeen year old kid who wakes up in a prison cell with green skin, purple hair, triangular pupils and scars all over his body. He has no memory of who he is but everyone calls him "Zombie Boy".
Before long it's revealed that this zombie was created by an evil multinational, multidimensional corporation to be used as the perfect unfeeling, uncaring, immortal assassin.
Things go weird when "ZomBoy" as he calls himself, gives himself a name. A sign that he's beginning to think for himself.
Before long Zom is on a rampage to learn who he is/was. But this may not answer all of his questions...
Zom gains powerful allies as well as enemies on a quest to free the living, the dead and everything else from the grip of this evil organization. Along the way they travel through many countries, plains of consciousness, existence, time and end a millennia old war before it can begin again.
That's all I can say without giving away too much. Oh yeah! Zom is a psycho with no soul and will be really, really brutal if he gets the chance.
Everything is not as it seems though. Someone is pulling the strings from behind the scenes. Zom may not have just been created to be an assassin.
This game would focus mainly on combat and platforming, taking advantage of Zom's martial arts skills and his superhuman acrobatics.

I like the guy, totally unique, black suit, emo, scythe with like chains and stuff on it, all anime. Never seen a character like that anywhere like Guilty Gear, or Final Fantasy, or plastered all over deviant art. =3

You know what would really pull him up to the next levels? Angel Wings! =)!!! 'cause it would be like... like a dichotomy or sumthing.

Seriously, though, needs work. Here is just a random assemblage of characters I've used in games I've made (or conceptualized): A master Gizmo, Anazi the Spider, Igor's niece Jennifer (not a hunchback, dreams of being a botanist)... It goes on.

You have got me at a good point for this, I've been hired by a local art gallery to teach a game character design course that starts in a couple of weeks, so I'm primed for critical analysis.

As you can tell, the primary problem with your character isn't that he is uncool or poorly drawn, it is that he is more of an emulation of established cool imagery than inspired by it. How could you communicate the same character vibe if he didn't dress all in black or have a scythe, both of which are typical design points for characters like this.

Start with the fairly standard anime / manga style. Choosing to present a character that way automatically makes it nigh impossible to convince anyone but other anime / manga fans that you have a truly unique character. in fact, manga styled work is an automatic rejection for more than one game company. and being inspired by manga doesn't mean you can't make the style your own, here is one of my favorite artists whose style is inspired by Japanese comics http://www.scottpilgrim.com. Bring out more of yourself in the style.

Colour Palette! Black and white has been done, you have a mood you want to establish with your character, be a little more complex with your colours. For this guy I'm seeing something with rich, warm dark colours. Purples and reds, I'd experiment with shades, but I'd avoid tones (no browns or pinks).

It's in the Package: In all fairness you may have more elaborate model sheets for your dude, I wouldn't know, but things like a four point turn around and model notes in an assembled character package trick people into thinking your character is more impressive than he actually is.

Put him in a game! If your character is truly unique, get a team together, do a flash platformer, an unreal third person action mod, a java JRPG with animated cinematics interweaved throughout. Let's see him in action, then it doesn't matter what anyone thinks of his uniqueness or not, he is a unique character in a unique game (ideally). Coincidentally, having a game with an anime character in your portfolio counteracts the automatic rejection noted above.

Edit: oops fixed the scott pilgrim link

I think this thread has already been done. Oh, well! : )

-Think of a Gears of War style world, dark and gray.

-Now think of the weapon upgrade ability of battlefield 2142 in an FPS game style.

-Soldier like Master Chief. Cool armor, super strength, etc.

-The circumstances of the game are there's a war going on and your side is losing. The enemy has an army twice the size of yours with better weapons and generals.

For the first level, you're a captain who can make all opposition flee with a glance and can get a no-scope from half a mile away. You'd have to be shot point-blank by artillery to die.

-At the end of the first level, you are presented with three soldiers hiding behind a rock in an interactive cinematic where you choose one based on skills, like strength (carry more ammo, take more bullets, run faster), or intelligence (Ability to fix vehicles manually, personal artificial intelligence, hot wiring, defusing bombs, etc.), or senses (Increased radar distance, easier aim, etc.) and after promoting one, you get sniped.

-For the rest of the game, you play as the soldier you picked with the other two in your fire team. You start on the ground and head for a jet. After boarding, you fight other jets with it. Over the course of the game you use a jet, a tank, a boat of your choice, and to make things interesting, a Mongoose ATV.

-Insert the kinds of bad guys you want on any planet. (Aliens, Locust Horde, Nazis?, etc.)

-At the end, you have to personally defeat the super-enhanced dictator with a mechanical apparatus jutting from his back with missiles, guns, lasers, whatever, and it ends in 1 of 6 ways. It depends on whether or not you killed him, and which person you chose.

Well, it's a sandbox game. If I was using the HXH license, I'd probably start with a retelling of the manga, beginning at the point just after the license exams. Yorknew could be the first city. In addition to the random Hunters roaming the city (that you could take out for fun and a bounty) and animals/stuff that could be tracked down for even MORE cash, there could be "story missions" involving the Spiders.

Maybe instead of a "create a character," you could have your choice of a created character or a storyline character. Hisoka unlockable? Yes?

Basically I'm seeing Crackdown/Ultimate Spider-Man/Ultimate Destruction with a lot more customization, varied super powers and cities.

A game where the protagonist is Jimi Hendrix's cat. The main quest involves trekking the magical land of Woodstock to find the catnip of salvation. Along the way you have to deal with 'spirit quests' brought on by venturing into the fog near the tent of doom and enemies who are ten feet tall and want nothing more than to make you mate with another cat in the spirit of free love.

I thought we were going for original but what ever makes you warm and fuzzy inside.

I got a whole lot of what I think is original ideas but I don't feel comfortably sharing them, I will be using them for flash assignments. Maybe I will get around to posting a character of mine later.
