It's funny, but I think the element that's helped make the Marvel Cinematic Universe such a success is also what's currently making comics, and DC in particular, such a mess: continuity. This idea that all the titles have to be in synch with each other and keep having big crossover events. Maybe it was a viable model once, but more and more people are only following a single title or two, and they don't care what's going on in the bigger universe and precisely how it all fits together. Giant crossover events are more of an annoyance than a delight.
