And you guessed it, I started at Fallout 3. I'm well aware that a lot of people think the first two Fallout games are better, and I'd really like to get into them. My only worry is, because I started with Fallout 3, will that affect what I think of the others? Has anyone else played Fallout 3, bought the first two, and then loved them? Or hated them?

I don't see why playing the third one first would affect your view on the first two unless you judge games by graphics. In which case you deserve to miss out on two good games.

I played the others before 3, and still hated them. I don't see how it'll make an impact personally, go for it.

Oh ok, I just remember some people saying that the third was too different from the others, and that they didn't like it, and I thought if I did like the third, then I might not like the others.

Different styles of games so I don't think an opinion on one will effect the other. If you were born in the 90's theres a great chance you won't like Fallout 1 & 2 though.

Have you ever seen gameplay of the first two?
I would compare Fallout 3 to TES: Oblivion and Fallout 1,2 to Diablo 2.
The story is something I really liked better in Fallout 1 and 2.

Don't watch it if you don't want to spoil the story, but it should give you a very good idea what to expect.

I played Fallout before Fallout 3 and I love both of them.

Oh, and if you decide to get Fallout and Fallout 2, look for Fallout: The Ultimate Collection.

I think I can help you. I played Fallout 3 and thought it was one of the best gaming experiences I'd had in a while. Intruiged by the game, I decided to pick up the Fallout Collection. The first two were simply amazing. I felt I appreaciated the first two more because they spawned Fallout 3. I would seriously suggest getting 1 and 2.

They are definitely worth it. Fallout 1 and 2 are amazing games. It's got a better atmosphere, story and it's a lot gorier.

PROTIP: Get hardened power armor and a turbo plasma rife.

I just started playing Fallout 3 just 3 days ago myself, to see what all the fuss was about. And I also haven't played the previous 2. So far it's actually pretty good. But for a PS3 game made in 2008, I expected somewhat better graphics. Resistance: Fall of Man which was made in 2006 has somewhat better graphics.

Fallout 3 was made with the intention of being mainly a PC and 360 game (I think), so the PS3 has quite a lot of downgrades in the graphics department compared to the other two.

Just managed to finish the first Fallout, and it was brilliant. I definitely recommend them based on my experience so far

Resistance didn't have a massive open world with loads of stuff in it. Considering the sheer scale of Fallout 3, the graphics are miraculous.

Well, Fallout 1 and 2 are basically strategy turn-based in a way. Basically, imagine if Fallout 3 required you use V.A.T.S. for walking around, opening doors, fire-from-the-hip aiming, and etc. but only in combat. Also...
I love the original Fallout more then I love Fallout 3 because Fallout 1 truly seems better and yes, I played Fallout 3 BEFORE I played Fallout 1.

Honestly they're two entirely different types of games. They're brothers in name but not by nature. And they're both excellent.

1+2 are superior games IMO, but I loved 3 as well; they are just very different.

Oh and to the people whining about graphics: The more time devs need to spend on those, the less awesome gameplay we get back if they have a budget.
