First, what's it do to our game, anyway?
Secondly, is there an ETA to the fix? I'm a bit shitty at research unless it's on the front page of the escapist, haha. I had the fortune of remembering the topic when my download of the patch was at like, 5%. Quickly cancelled, and I'm playing happily.

I believe the broken patch only applied to Xbox 360 and not the PC version. As for an ETA, I have no clue since I bought it for PC

I believe the pacth was put in place to get it ready for the new DLC, honest hearts

I think that a patch has been released for the 360 to fix that "broken patch". Wasn't it released near the end of April?
[sub]a patch to fix a patch. That's kind of weird...[/sub]

It happens a lot more often than you'd think. There's a not-insignificant amount of bugs generated purely by patching, especially with PC games, since driver interaction is way different between machines.

The patch was patched up. I finished the game a little over a week ago with it and the only issue I had were loading times. Those aren't going anywhere...

Loading times?
Erm, how bad are they exactly?

(I'm trying to collect info on whether to recommend this game, but since I play on a PC that's optimised for super fast loading, I'm unfamiliar with the xbox version)

a few days ago I noticed that in steam Fallout is updating, I paused the download, is it going to screw things up if I fully download it?

its a good thing I managed to play through the game relitivley unscathed,

Assuming you're playing on 360, clearing the cache helped with the load times for me.
I'm not sure about PS3 or PC though.

On my PC, which is not exactly a beast, it ran fine. A few more crashes than I'd like, but loading times were near instantaneous. And if you're going to get it(recommend it) don't forget to get some Weather mods. I don't care if it "Ruins the sanctiity of the game" or whatever. Get Nevada skies, it'll be worth it. Trust me.

You have to load a screen for half a minute every time you fast travel, enter or exit a building, or enter a new area. Sometimes longer.

I always forget about cache-clearing. It's not bad right now because I'm playing through Honest Hearts, which is very open (and it's quite good too, infinitely better than Dead Money).

The issue is most noticeable around the actual Vegas area. There are several key locations with no fast-travel point straight to the inside for some reason. Many missions will have you traveling around the areas simply talk to someone and pick up an item. You can use the fast-travel, but you'll be put right outside of where you want to be. The areas in between point A and point B aren't particularly large, either, so you'll encounter many loading screens when you don't use the fast-travel feature too.

It's an annoyance. Nothing game-killing, though it does make certain parts of the game a complete slog.

I can see how that would be annoying.
K, I'll keep that in mind.

These broken patches, are why i ignore all the patches for Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I've never downloaded them, and i've never had issues with the games.

I'm on a lower-end machine and had no issues at all with load times; they're much the same as Fallout 3.

What i DID have huge fucking issues with, however, are things like enemies constantly spawning in the terrain. The game's still in a broken state, so don't waste your time/money on it.
