New vegas help? Sorry standard!

Wasn't too sure on the games story until I got into the strip bloody love it now though. Basically Iv'e pretty much followed the main quest without deviating too much at about level 10 (don't worry i'm going to)killed benny in topps casino and kinda regreting it. Think i'm on one of the last missons now and don't want the game to end.
1. Was killing benny as soon as I met him a bad idea (have I cut short a big chunk of the game)?
2. Am I near the end (are there alot of sidequests)?

Yeah I have done a few but I still have not gone around at least 2/3's of the map. Don't want to go on the wikia already had it spoiled that a certain voice was a robot. Thanks though.

actually ive found that a huge portion of what the wiki "spoils" is stuff you would have never, EVER figured out (like your example here)

What did you do to make them shoot at you? Killing benny might make them hostile for a period, but after a few game days you should be okay to return. The Strip as a whole is a faction, so it sounds like you just set some guards to aggressive. This is much the same as if you accidentally shot someone in Megaton.

Incidentally, there are multiple ways to get the guards out of the way before gunning down Benny if that's what caused the problem. If you shot your way across the Casino floor to get to him, I can see why the guards might be mad at you.

Kill one of the guards and wear his skin like a dress. Or his uniform. Either way.

2. There are HUGE numbers of side-quests, and not just the ones you do as part of the main quests.

Oh you done goofed now, I did speech checks with Swank and got access to Bennys suite, then killed him there, really you don't miss out on anything, unless you want to sleep with Benny >.>

There are many outcomes and siding with Benny is just one.
