Actually by taking samples of air bubbles trapped deep in arctic ice they can find out the exact temperature it was thousands of years ago. I have no idea how but I am not a scientist.
Doesn't water freeze at 0 C? No, when you're dealing with salt water ice will come out of it at different rates depending on salt content and, again, temperature.
There's also a pressure factor involved. There are areas deep in the ocean where it's over 200 degrees C because of such high pressure, and water boils at temperatures as low as 30 atop mountains.

Totally agree with you that it's always changed (in an up and down trend). But never quite like this:

And you gotta take some pride in the human race! There's almost 7 billion of us now. We aren't a lowly species anymore. We've gone to the fu@&ing moon! How many species can claim that? If we can mess with our own DNA and split atoms, whose to say we're too insignificant to mess with the atmosphere?
Or I'm completely wrong and just fear mongering.
Don't take anything from Inconvenient truth seriously, its nothing but propeganda and scaremongering using made up numbers to try and justify what Gore says.

That particular picture relates to the claim that a 6 degree rise in global temperatures over the course of his century would be disasterous, the only problem is that climatologists predict that the most we'll see is 1 degree of warming over the next century.

He used another piece of data collected from ice cores to show a correlation between co2 levels and temperature, but the ice cores actually contradicted what Gore claimed as they showed that changes in co2 levels lagged behind changes in temperature levels by several centuries.

Not trying to get at you but don't take Al Gore too seriously, he might have good intentions but he's not a scientist, he's a politician, the debate of whether or not humanity is having an affect and how great it is if we do goes on.

Another thing that's doesn't seem to be widely known is that we are still in an ice age right now, an ice age is any time where the earth has ice caps, so even if they did melt away that's not unusual.

Excuse the rant but I really hate the blatent political misuse of science involved with this whole issue. And I really hate when Al Gore is said to be the inventor of the internet, he proposed a bill to allow its use in the public domain in America (whereas beforehand it was the exclusive use of the military and universities), he didn't do anything to invent it.

Seems like a good idea, but really? Is it all that important? Couldn't he be working on the electric car again or something, .eco seems just such a waste of his political whinging skills.

And he caught manbearpig, blew that bastard higher than a druggie in a glue factory.

Okay guys, even if you don't believe in Global Warming, you cannot say that we should continue what we're doing to the environment (for lack of a less "hippy" word).

I don't care if you think Global Warming is a hoax, or that Al Gore gets his statistics out of his Carbon-Monoxide-free asshole, you cannot say that we shouldn't do something about how the world uses up fossil fuels or how it expels unnecessary gasses or how we treat its environment.

The sooner we get more fuel efficient cars and power saving devices, the better.

Though there was a "Penn and Teller's Bullshit" episode on Global warming and some similar topics, but I couldn't find it.

Anywho, it's a nice idea. Nothing too extraordinary, it's like a porn website having ".xxx" for it's domain. It would show people's support on environmental-friendliness and the like.

Researching climate change? We know it's changing, and there's nothing we can do about it.
I think the 'research' is one to find the causes and problems associated with climate change, so we can better understand it and help prevent it in the future.

If you prevent climate change, then you stagnate it. Doing that causes all species to become stagnant as well. All in all, it's a bad thing for the world. In a never changing climate, disease will win over healthy beings.

That's not a rant at you, just in general. We're part of an ever-changing world. We need to accept that and make the best of the time we get to occupy it.
couldn't agree more, thats why whenever i hear anything about humans changing the climate i just tune them out, that and 20 yrs ago we were headed for a global
ice age

Yeah its a decided scientific fact that the Earth constantly cools and warms over thousands of years. But I like "green" cause I hate the amount of pollution in the air, whenever I go into a large city, I can always "feel" the CO emissions, which isn't nice.
