I have an idea for a new IP Nintendo can make for the Wii U. It's a stylish action platformer involving magic, demons, sorcery & lots of bad ass coolness.
The plot is very simple. In the mythical Kingdom of Sarrow, there exists a council of sorcerers called the Skirimira council who maintains balance of Sarrow. However, Demons from lord Zalon infiltrate & kill almost all the council members....... with one exception, the youngest, most mysterious, yet most powerful & dangerous member of the council was teleported away from the fortress. A sorceress who is the only one who can take down Zalon, a sorceress, named Eve. Garbed in a coat as light as the sky, stockings as black as the darkness & long flowing hair as red as blood. Each of 7 other council members left behind skills & powers for Eve to learn & master. Eve sets off with her trusty staff, acrobatic moves, & tons of kick ass spells to end evil once & for all.
This game like I said earlier, is a 2-D action platformer in the same vein of something like Strider or an old school Ninja Gaiden. The gameplay consists of a combination of traditional platforming, & beat em' up mechanics, with plenty of style added in. In fact, your graded based on your style, the more acrobatic & cool you look, the more points you'll earn. Sure you can run to the right & jump the old fashioned way like a Mario game, but wheres the fun in that, when you can... do a backflip, shoot yourself 5 ft. in the air, & take down a giant pig thing all in the space of 5 seconds. Like many Nintendo games, the controls are simple. The left analog stick moves Eve left & right & the touch screen & stylus handles all your moves. there are 4 types of spell to use. The attack page is triggered by holding down the L button & using the stylus to do various attacks. The elemental page is triggered by holding down the zL button which lets you do tons of kick ass environmental spells to unleash all hell on enemies.
Stance spells are triggered by holding down both the L & zL buttons which lets you temporarily transform into various stances which changes Eve's appearence & abilities such as a Swordswoman, Fire fighter, Jester, or Ice Skater. Last but most important for a platformer, jumping spells which are triggered with no buttons held, tap the touch screen to jump & do various swirls & patterns with it to do different jumps. Of course, you can reverse the controls for left handed players. You have to watch your magic gauge though, when it runs out, your screwed. The gauge automatically refills when you don't use magic for a little bit. The combo mechanic (which is similar to Donkey Kong Jungle Beat) involves stringing together a combination of jumps, areal moves (swinging from vines, wall jumps, etc.) & attacks. To activate special finishers, when an icon on an enemy prompts you, click the analog stick & follow said quick time event with the touch screen. You can purchase new spells from shops scattered through the world map. There are some light RPG elements too in which you gain experience and the higher the level you are, the more experience you earn.
Speaking of the world map, the level structure works like a combination of Super Mario Bros. 3 & DK Jungle Beat. Each world contains 4 levels consisting of 2 consecutive stages, & a mini-boss. The 5th level is the final boss that caps off each world & rewards you with an extension of your magic gauge.
Visually, the game is both different, yet familiar territory for Nintendo. As you might suggest, the game is a lot darker than your typical 2D platformer. With gritty environments & surreal design. Yet at the same time, it has an aesthetic that beats the heart of a Nintendo production. The enemies all have a twisted, cartoonish look to them.
Now Lets talk about Eve herself.
Eve
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Occupation: Sorceress
Affiliation: Skiramira Council
Blood Type: B
Voice Actress: (Jap.) Mayumi Taraka, (Eng.) Melissa Fahn
The legendary punishment for evil, Eve is the last sorceress of the Skiramira Council, as well as the youngest, & shortest, & strongest, & most mysterious. Her character design consists of long, flowing, bright Red hair; A light blue sorceress coat; Big, brown boots, Pure White collar shirt with black tie; black mini-skirt with matching thigh high stockings; light blue eyes; a crescent moon hair clip; and an elaborate ribbon/cage thing with a jewel on the right side of the forehead area that extends to the end of her hair called the Erorrza. The Erorrza is tied to Eve's soul actually the source of her powers. If the Erorrza is cut, or disconnected, then she becomes weak & vulnerable, and she'll eventually go into a coma, & if not re-attached to her by midnight, then she dies. Eve not only possesses powerful magic, but agility & combat strength that far exceed a normal human being. Eve's weapon is a long wooden staff that she can channel her magic to and amplify her powers. Eve travels around with her sidekick, Oswald, a wise, but foul mouthed, wise cracking, sarcastic black cat who hides in Eve's shadow. Eve also has a strange craving for choco fi's, bite sized snacks she'll do anything to get. Eve's finisher spells are...... completely random. Many of her spells involve putting enemies in to ridiculous situations such as in a pot of boiling water while Eve prepares a demon stew, or putting them on a fast roller coaster as Eve plummets her enemies to their death. There are even spells that involve references to classic Nintendo toys such as the Ultra Machine. Eve also, speaks in a stereotypical British accent, often using British terminology such as "Wreched Beast" or "Trousers"
Next, her backstory. I was also thinking about Eve's backstory. Eve grew up in Capital of the Kingdom of Sarrow, Sarrownian. She was founded by Sarrow's Royal ruler, King Rumain. The king took her in & raised her in the his castle. She was then trained how to fight & be a knight. Eve however, always tried to weasel her way out of combat practice. Eve's childhood friend was the King's daughter, Princess Vivian (voiced by Hynden Walch). Eve & Vivian communicated with eachother but not very often, as Vivian is always buissy & her Nanny/Escort Emmera always wants Eve to focus on being a knight. One day Eve runs away from the castle as she is sick of being compared to the Princess & feels she isn't doin anything meaningful. Untill she tripped & fell off a cliff...... Almost. She was saved by Oswald who tells her that she can make a difference if she joins the Skiramira council to learn magic. Eve then makes a contract with Oswald & becomes a Sorceress of the Skiramira council. 4 years latter, Eve recives word that her council has been slaughtered by Zalon's Demons, so she sets off on a quest to recover the council's sacered treasures & put an end to Zalon's Reign.
As far as who should develop this is concerned, call me crazy, but I think this is best left to Nintendo EAD Tokyo. They did an excellent job with Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (which is where I'm borrowing a lot of this games mechanics from). As well as a phenomenal job with the Super Mario Galaxy games. So what do you think?
