I don't see what the problem would be with a unified world government.
I don't either - I think the issue is how it comes about. With the way the world's developing, a world order won't just be a practicality, it will be a necessity.
However, with a one world government, the line between freedom and tyranny will be stretched on the edge of a knife.
There's also a movement to begin this new world government now (which I feel is too soon), starting with a one-world-currency as proposed by Russia and China. What's hte problem with a one world currency you ask? Nothing particular, it's simply that if you had a one world currency you'd have to have a world policing force capable of maintaining the legal currency. This would create international laws that could very easily develop into a one world government.
The EU is a good example of this. Started as an economic prosperity agreement between countries, it has now formed into what can loosely be defined as a confederacy of individual states. Now, in the EU's case, it's been mostly beneficial, but that's also because most of Europe has similar heritage. Things will become much more messy when you have to deal with people from completely different backgrounds.
As I said, however, I think the idea is great; the world just isn't ready for it yet - those who push for it now are simply arrogant of the massive (I believe) war that would follow.
