Given that many Xbox 360 games require system updates to play, avoiding these server side security checks by refusing to connect the 360 to the internet will be difficult.
I don't have a 360 yet, but I've been considering it. But what are these system updates about? Are they just for XBOX Live or do they affect single-player games?

So what happens if I dont have my xbox connected to the internet?
That's exactly what I'd like to ask. I don't use Live precisely for that reason.

As for the rest of it, I like the idea of a non-DRM anti-piracy measure.

Oh, and pirates, you asked for it [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.86308?page=1].

EDIT: Arr mateys, it be me 4000th post!

I have never heard of console disk pirating. Seriously, what? Must be quite hard to do...

I'm more concerned about people who simply don't have their console hooked up to the internet.
I can't imagine Microsoft being so stupid as to alienate all of their off-line customers.
Then again, I might eat those words as stranger things have happened.
Yeah, I agree. Big -IF-, but -if- Microsoft alienated offline players, that'd be insanely stupid. That said, I highly doubt they'd do this

honestly, i feel that this will just alienate paying customers. all that this will do is place another wall between gamers and the game itself. stuff like this never hinders the pirates for long and always ends up hurting customers.
