Newb Guitar hero Question

So I recently came in to procession of a cheap guitar hero world tour.
Which is to say new game, with new drum kit, guitar, and mic for a very sparring 20$.
I currently use a Gamefly account, and I have been considering renting, guitar hero metallic or 5, and was curious if anyone knew if

A) The peripherals have changed at all

and/or

B) Can I load up songs from World Tour with the metallica or Guitar hero 5 discs, for instance?

Does anyone by any chance know if guitar hero works in a similar way to say rock band?

Which is to say, all songs from rock band seem to be accessible in rock band 2.
Can the same be said for world tour songs in metallica and 5?

The instruments would almost certainly work, but I don't quite understand question B. If you want to play a song from World Tour, you need the World Tour disc in, same with Metallica and 5. At least, I think that's how it works.

You can still use the same instruments from World Tour on GH Metallica or GH 5. And no, if you want to play songs from World Tour, you will need to put the World Tour disc in.

Idk the first two questions, I quit guitar hero after GH2. But I'm pretty sure you can't do Rock Band like stuff. I see GH:WT and GH3 have separate downloadable lists on the PSN store.

To better phrase this. I could play rock band 1 songs only with the rock band 1 Disc.
HOWEVER, i could ply both rock band 1 and 2 songs, with the rock band 2 disc.
Can this also be said with guitar hero?

See? Proof of how long I have been out of the loop. But I'm thinking they have "Rock Band releases" and "Lego Rock Band Releases". The Lego one is the same new releases but the one difference is they are "kid friendly".
