Newbie Needs Help on DotA

I've just gotten to play a bit of the game with AIs. The problem is the item system is overly complex and I can't even win against easy enemies. I've read a couple beginner guides and a couple character guides, and one of my questions is:
How do you last-hit so well you get the ludicrous amounts of gold they say you should get in the guides? I'm getting 16 kills every 10 minutes, and even less if I consider denying simultaneously.
Edit: and please don't say anything like "Play League instead, /thread." The reason is pretty self-explanatory.

- Practice, know how hard your guy hits and how long it takes to swing (and how long it takes for the hit to reach the mob if it's ranged).

- Sarter items to boost your primary stat in order to hit harder (nothing more annoying that a mob with 10hp left).

- NEVER auto attack unless you know exactly what you are doing, if you are auto attacking at any time other than pushing an enemy tower or playing with a mob HP to trow your opponent out of balance you freaking suck.

TBH is not that hard.
