Why do people care about it? Are you threatened by the new people finding their feet? Do you lack the ability to ignore stuff you don't care about?

Also the whim of whoever has been elevated to mod at any given generation on here dictates the rules, so the 'official line' is not worth adding, since it will probably change again soon.

I don't actually mind people necoring threads so long as you're not replying to posts someone made months ago. If you want to talk about the exact same topic why not just add to the already existing thread even if it's old?
It is funny when someone necro's a thread to answer a question asked by the OP though. I assume that is from people looking up stuff and just not checking dates.

And here I clicked on this thread because I needed help reading the eldritch texts.
Is necroing really such a big deal? I mean, most of the topics I visit are on that little bar at the side that says "Latest: Popular" or whatever, so, I guess I don't see it much. I dunno, I'd have rather everyone posted on say, the one Big Bang Theory thread rather than having a new one pop up every week or so (you can also replace BBT with say: Anita, Nintendo love/hate, Pc elitism, console elitism or whatever else is the hot topic of that month}

I was just curious because before I figured they used the search bar, which amazed me since the search bar is...not good(i'm sorry mods, but the search bar needs work).
Now i know google is the reason why.

My theory is that it's all the same person, who keeps making a new account every day just to necro threads, in an effort to 'fool' the regular users here and make them fall for the necro.

(And the regulars here DO fall for them, and start quoting posts from years ago, thinking they're still recent.)
I've had that happen to me a few times. I also once nearly commented on a thread, then as I was going through it I found a post of my own from years ago. That was an interesting experience, to say the least. It's funny how a person's opinion and typing style can change after a few years.

Maybe I'll bookmark this thread and exactly 2 years from now I'll necro it and see how many people fall for it. I probably shouldn't say this though, because some smartass is probably gonna necro it in 2 years and make it look like I did it... Was it me? Or was it someone else? I'm going to write a message to the future me...

Go to the damn gym! I know you're still procrastinating, me! Stop being so god damn lazy!

I've heard them say on a podcast, the reason they get locked are 'cos people (might not even be the necromancer) might start quoting people from years ago, so you end up with people getting quote messages about a subject they are no longer Interested in talking about... Not to mention "I don't remember posting in that thread".

They also said stuff along the lines of, feel free to talk about old stuff by making a new thread about it, then any matured opinions can be expressed and new people can take a swing at it.
