Has anyone ever bought an Open Box product from Newegg? I have seen a few PC's recently that look like amazing deals but I want to make sure there aren't horror stories about ordering open box products and having graphics cards or the power supply ripped out.

So if anyone has experience with Newegg open box deals please let me know. Thanks.

I would just make sure that you can return the product if it doesn't work - call and ask someone at Newegg and inquire about the exact product if you want to be absolutely sure. If they won't let you make a return on an open-box item, then don't make the purchase (also check whether it will be at your cost to make the return). Either someone returned it because there was something they felt was "defective", (and Newegg missed the "defect" during inspection) or they used it shortly and changed their mind. If it was someone who just changed their mind, then you'll likely get a perfectly good product at a discount. This is why it's critical you check everything about the item when it arrives and decide whether it's at 100% before the return window passes. Always keep in mind that they are in the business of selling as many items as efficiently as possible, and that there are certain quality control issues that arise due to the volume of products they deal with.

Happy bargain hunting!

I think "open box" means that it was bought and then returned, and tested to make sure it works. (not sure if you knew that already)

Anyways, I wouldn't buy an open box pre-built (as I think you said you wanted too). I'd limit open box products to only RAM (as it works or not work, pretty much). I wouldn't risk open box with something important like a power supply or motherboard.

I'd go with what sidecord said and build one yourself. I isn't that hard.
I am really trying to avoid building one myself. I know pre-builds cost more and they still come with their challenges, but my tech savvy is pretty minimal and all the guides I have seen for build your own are really less then reassuring. I am just trying to get a decent pre-build to update my 8 year old single core system. Something that will play Starcraft 2 and The Old Republic when it eventually comes out.

Thanks for the recommendations though.

New Egg is a site that you never have to worry about. Virtually everything they sell, refurbished, open box, or new, has a return policy.

Read the descriptions, though. Whats in the description is EXACTLY what your going to get.
