I expect the next Nintendo thing to be a Wii HD , the next MS will probably be a console with improved graphics , and full digital distribution . And I suspect Sony will stay with the PS3 for the second generation in a row , if it really is as powerful as they say . ( and also because they already have the next generation of disc , Blu-Ray)
Sony will try to replicate the PS2 success, aiming for a functional console to go under the grunt of the Xbox sequel.
Aiming for an early release, they will open with guns blazing on the new releases. Aiming to go for the lowest common denominator in terms of traditional games, rather than 'Wii-isms' or casual titles.
Overall, expect a massive shift towards online play (we 'aint seen nothing yet). Given how technology is going, graphics may take a back seat. Consoles will aim towards being developer friendly, hoping to win in a titles war by attracting producers to them with easy interfaces and systems they can immediately grasp.

Or the impossible could happen and Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo work together to build one console and unite every gamer under one flag and everyone would be able to enjoy what each company has to offer. One can dream...
Honestly i dont have any understanding of business, but why compete when you can just create a game that everyone could enjoy on a single console? I mean whoever produced it would get the money for it and you would also have everyone buying that game not just the few who bought their console of choice.Eggo said:

Sony: PlayStation 4, obviously. PS3 will be supported for a while after PS4 comes out. PS4 will be basically an upgraded PS3.
Microsoft: Xbox Valhalla, if they keep the code-name which is unlikely but it would make me happy. It'll likely be mostly like an Xbox 360 (upgraded of course) but with some adjustments, such as a Blu-ray drive, motion sensing controller with built in rechargeable battery packs. I expect that the dashboard will be improved as well.

Nintendo: They will do what they're doing with the DSi which is dish out an upgraded version of the Wii with some slight tweaks in it that will be pretty much no different than the regular Wii except with a new paint tool or something.

The Playstation Mindbox will come out in 2012. It will be a box shaped helmet that you put on your head, and hallucinate you are in a video game. It will contain injectors filled with LSD, and metal probes that will be jammed into your skull that emit electrical impulses, controlling what the Acid trip will be about.
Microsoft is coming out with the XBall420. It will be a land mind shape, that will double as a keg tap and a bong. It will only play FPS's or Madden. Every single frat boy will own one.
