A shit ton of the last thiry-odd years worth of pop/top-40 groups and artists and a few American Idol contestants would like to speak to you. Apparently, the bulk of the western world lumping them in with Nickelback is offensive to over-produced, over-hyped, completely generic, committee-designed pop and top-40 acts.

To anyone else that's responded in favour of Nickelback, don't get me wrong, they have a couple good songs, but they're so mind-numbingly bland for a band that's desperately trying to be some kind of alt-country-rock fusion thing. I mean, yes, 'She didn't get this far' is almost surprising in it's relevance, if Heidi Fleiss, Hollywood Madam was a current story.

Sure, 'Burn it to the ground' is a good "let's get drunk and have a great time" song, but it's also an anthem for the halfwit redneck drunks I see all around me, and every time some drunk wanna-be cowboy get shitfaced and tries to start a scrap after listening to it, I end up with sore knuckles.

They're not as untalented as a lot of current musical acts, but they're almost as formulaic as many of them. I guess they're kind of a modern day version of 'The Monkees', except they actually play their own instruments; it's relatively clean, safe music for the blue-collar masses that like a pseudo-rock-and-roll edge to their music.

Nickelback annoy me because they're just so damn safe...which is a terrible quality in a rock band. I don't like the songs, don't like his voice, don't like the production.

I hate pretty much every famous band because they all sound the same and all suck. Rise Against was one of my favorite bands, then that shitty acoustic song started getting played on the radio and everyone liked them that song, and then they got famous and went down hill. That doesn't make me a hypocrite at all.

Saying we are hypocrites because we don't like a famous band is like saying 66% of the world are hypocrites because they are not christian.

I've heard a lot of people declaring how terrible Nickelback is, and I never got it. I enjoy their music. They're certainly not the best ever, but I find it good enough to listen to once in a while.

Some people simply call them unoriginal, which I see, but it doesn't make them bad. There are plenty of unoriginal bands that are considered much better than Nickelback.

I suppose their genre is another main complaint, that they have a type of rock that a lot of people simply hate to death. My response to that is: Hate the genre, not the band. Some people may not like what Nickelback does, but I'll say this much about it: They do it well. They've got a good singer, the rest of the band is certainly competent enough to play their songs well, their songs generally have decent lyrics, and I simply can't see where all this hate comes from.

So, could someone explain all this hate to me? Because I simply don't get it.

Please not to be a Search bar Nazi but this thread has been done atleast 5 five times since I've been here. Also I really don't see why people bother with hate threads it just feeds the trolls. Just look at every thread ever done about JRPGs on this forum or any other forum along with Halo, MW2, etc. I fail to see why people do it.

OT: I like them and I think they're good bar the song Rockstar which is awful. I don't if people don't like them as long as I know who I like.

No they are just ignorant. I love baleric trance, and am not partial to metal rock, but I can appreciate why someone would like it. Nickelback aren't bad in such a way that no one should like their music.

Nickleback is a mediocre radio-rock band, let's get that out of the way first. They play very basic "1-2, 1-2" notes, below average acoustic, and make a ton of ballads and then end up being one of the most famous bands on earth.

All of this while fantastic talented bands that get hardly any recognition because their material isn't suited to short 2 minute radio spots remain wildly underrated and unappreciated for their talent, while Nickleback wins awards for playing mediocre, repetitive music with no redeeming artistic merit what so ever.

I don't hate them because they suck, I hate them because they suck and they take all the recognition and attention away from the hundreds of much more talented bands. A prime example of mainstream radio rock shit and how it deludes the public with catchy 2 minute singles.

Why should people have to spend their money on talented bands? If they think the simple shit sounds good, and they enjoy it, then they have every right to buy it.

I don't like them but I think some of the hate is kind of bandwagon-y.

I do like some of their stuff, like that song they did for spiderman, but most of it is pure garbage. I don't really hate them, but I do resent them for being Canadian; There are many Canadian rock bands who deserve more attention than these hacks have received.

Completely agreed on this point. There are waaaaay better bands than these guys in Canada. Unfortunately the Junos seem to award commercial success more than talent.

Pretty much this.

They released "How You Remind Me", and it was good. It was something new. Then, they decided it would be a good idea to release that song 50 more times, but with a different title.

They opened the door for these boring bands to come in, and basically release the same song over and over. They all sound the same. Their songs sound the same. All these new bands play such bland, music-less "music", and I cant tell which crappy band is even playing anymore.

I've only heard their Silver Side Up album (and, of course, Rockstar) and, even though it's not my genre of choice, I find them pretty good to listen to, once in a while.

I hate them as a band because they are yet another example of a mediocre group soaring to fame off of Canadian Content laws. Because radio and TV stations here need to have a certain amount of content produced in Canada, bands that otherwise wouldn't get exposure (because they suck) get played because they're from Alberta and because they're on the radio people automatically assume that they're a "big name" band.

That being said, I don't really mind the music they play, it's just been done a lot better by other people who came before them.
