Wouldn't they want less people playing instruments and more playing Rock Band?
Less competition for Nickleback.

As a newbie bass player ( only done bout 6 months of bass training) and as a video game fan(including Guitar Hero), I can say that this statement is just stupid. IMO, the market is already overcrowded with talentless bands ,that just cash in on the same old formulas. Even the metal genre is already kinda stale ( with some sub-genres as exceptions)-but whatever genre floats your boat - you have to agree that already too many people attempt and fail at music on a daily basis ( including the quoted band ,atleast in my opinion).

Don't get me wrong the world needs more players ,but hell atleast they need to have some talent, rhytm and training. Guitar hero and Rock Band -and all games in general- are viewed as entertainment. They don't stop people from buying guitars. Sure the whole bundled instruments are expensive, but they are meant for a party game.If you want to play guitar that shiny controller won't stop you.

Actually these 2 rhytm games are good for music culture ,if nothing else, but they can also direct you to music , hardly stop you from playing it.

I think we're getting too preoccupied with the messenger (Nickelback) instead of the message. The message is this: Guitar Hero/Rock Band satisfies our inner metalhead to such a degree that we don't feel the need to rock with anything more than a plastic guitar. I see his point to an extent, but disagree. If anything, these games will create a greater appreciation for guitar driven music, and thus more potential fans.

As far as my experience goes, Nickelback shouldn't be concerned about the potential rock musicians abducted by GH. GH might suck away the talent for cover bands, but the guys who want to write their own music aren't going to be sucked away by GH. GH celebrates the experience of performance, not musicianship.

Fuck Off anyone who thinks Nickelback are shit. They're not. They're a brilliant band demonstrating some true skill with their instruments (given Chad Kroeger's voice can be annoying and a bit whiny but that's only 1 instrument out of 6 that's not that good and 5 out of 6 instruments that they play better than most of you). Their music might not appeal to you but that doesn't make them shit, that just means their music doesn't appeal to you. When you can play stuff of their level or above Then you can talk shit, untill then what do you base your argument that it's hit on? that you don't like it?
Ooooooh that's a solid argument :-|

Fanboy-Flame aside: i think it'd enrich a few more lives to learn to play guitar rather than guitar hero, but w/e floats your boat - if you're more into guitar hero than playing guitar you'll never be an amazing guitarist anyway as you won't have the drive for it
Common argument... This is basically a wordier "I would like to see you do better"

Nickelback is trying to tell gamers who like Guitar Hero and Rock Band to pick up a real instrument? They should really shut up and just fade away from history already. I think the games GIVE certain people inspiration/motivation to play real instruments and can actually revive music, but then again there are some who think its because of the publicity that these games could make that could ruin the music industry, blah blah blah.

My problem with this is that I can't play a guitar. Honestly, I've tried, and I'm not dextrous enough to play it. Plus, my mind doesn't work the way a musicians mind does. I am an extremely left brain heavy thinker, and that severly hampers my attempts to play an actual instrument. When I'm playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band, I can think mathematically and do well. Plus, I don't really WANT to play an actual guitar, but I find playing Guitar Hero fun. It's like karaoke: How many people that have no interest in becoming a professional singer like karaoke?

ok and this guy dosent know what he is talking about. My school is 700 kids ok i know 100 of them easily. around 70 out of that hundred played guitar hero. 50 of them are learning to play guitar now and the other 20 are thinking about it. So why does this opinion mean anything

I'm not trying to be that confrontational as "i'd like to see you do better"
I just think that if you can't do what they do you shouldn't dismiss them completely out of hand

They only sound as similar as every other bands songs sound
actually they sound the same because for several songs they ARE the same, there's a site that i'm too lazy to find but they play nickelback songs side by side and and besides minor chord changes they are the same song

Everyone of Muse's, Maiden's, Guns 'n' Roses', Motley Crue's, Elliot Minor's, Jay-Z's, Metallica's songs have massive similarities in them, Why? because it's that band playing them, they all like to play stuff like that, does the fact that it's similar to the other stuff they do mean it's crap?
wrong, on a few accounts, mostly Maiden, GnR and Motley Crue

they do have the same hooks, ie playing styles, however their songs do not sound similar. i dare you to find 2 Maiden tracks played side by side that sound identical or 2 Crue or GnR tracks. you can't because they don't exist

nickelback makes me sad to be canadian

Two things:

1. Nickelback should do us all a favor and put down their instruments and pick up guitar hero.

2. Nickelback is obviously frustrated not by the lack of rock bands, of which there are many, but by the lack of awful post grunge corporate rock bands that could open for them without upstaging them.

Chad, we get it, you think the music died the day Creed broke up.
Well, you stated everything I was going to say, but with less words. Saved me some work. Thanks.

Soon, the only reason people will be remembering Nickelback is because they show up in Rock Band 6 or Guitar Hero 10...

These guys DO know that you have to have some innate musical concepts of time and rhythm to play either of these games, right (esp. on high def TV)?

As an ACTUAL musician who teaches all of the wind instruments, and is learning to play 7 as we speak, can we please drop all of the childish arguments around this set of games.

Stupid buttrock bitches (Nickelback) who don't understand what music is all about, that it actually means something more than a paycheck and having someone else writing their songs for them and generic lyrics about a road or jeans or something frivolous or bullshit like that. But I don't really care who plays guitar hero because it doesnt mean any thing. It's for all the no-talent left-brainers who don't have any musical talent who need an automated message flashed into their eyes that says "YOU ROCK!!!" I'm not saying that I like the game, but its good for parties and I'm sure its inspired people to actually play an instrument. I'm sure in some places the GH guitar has no correlation with an actual instrument.

I enjoyed Guitar Hero when I played it on easy and medium, and certain songs on hard. But when it gets to the point that I actually have to practice in order to play a song, I might as well learn to play a real guitar. I still had fun, but I'm just not going to invest time into the game if I could invest time into a real instrument.

And I do. I play alto and baritone sax and I enjoy it.

And things unfold pretty much exactly as predicted.

I've never really understood all the Nickelback hate. I guess in a way it's kind of like all the people who dump on World of Warcraft; you have to think that the vitriol wouldn't be half as powerful as it is if the subject in question wasn't so damned successful.

And I still think his point is valid. Guitar Hero may be tons of fun to play, but at the end of the day it has no more to do with music than Portal or CoD4.

Agreed. I would also like to add that I like most of the songs off of their new cd. Want to know why? Because I think it sounds good. No more. No less.
