Nier: Automata Gets a Fan-Made Patch to Fix its Graphics

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1391/1391957.jpgIf you aren't happy with Nier: Automata's graphics on PC, there's a new fan-made patch that improves them.

One of the great things about PC gaming is that from time to time, the community will step up to either add to or fix games that it isn't entirely happy with. We've seen that with content mods and UI mods for games like Skyrim, and now it's happening to a more recent release: Nier: Automata [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/117019-Nier-Automata-Review]. The PC version of the Platinum Games title has been held back by some technical issues, like running at a stetched 900p instead of actual 1080p, but a new mod is addressing the issue.

The aptly titled these Reddit commenters [http://steamcommunity.com/app/524220/discussions/0/135512104777399045/], you could see your framerates increase from 30 fps to 60 fps.

If you're willing to give it a try (and remember, it's a mod, so results may vary, and you won't get any support from Platinum for it), head over the the Steam community page [http://steamcommunity.com/app/524220/discussions/0/135512104777399045/] for download links and install instructions.

Haven't checked out Nier: Automata yet? Check out what Yahtzee thought about it in Zero Punctuation [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/117019-Nier-Automata-Review]!

I thought that was just the cutscenes?

It depends, the cutscenes definitely were messed up but some players (myself included) were running into an issue where the game would have the stretching problem when trying to play in fullscreen mode but would run in proper 1080p in windowed mode. However, the game doesn't support borderless-window natively so it was somewhat annoying. But the FAR mod fixed all of that and then some.

I never saw the big deal with 1080p 60fps at all times in all my games.
I can deal with a solid 30fps, but I know that 60 is better, more fluid, easier on the eyes. That said, I don't get why Nier Automata is having a hard time hitting 60 on PS4 or even PC, it's not that graphically impressive.

I'm not the type of person who gets on board with the "30 FPS IS LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE" crowd, but games that have variable framerates are incredibly frustrating, and I am finding it harder to enjoy games that run at 30 FPS if there's any potential for having better performance. As much as I love Bloodborne, I'd love it even more if I could play it on my PC (or if it could at least be updated to take advantage of the PS4 Pro).

There are certainly games where it doesn't truly impact the gameplay; Final Fantasy VII isn't really a better game running at 60 FPS, but it's certainly just more pleasant for me to watch and control because there's less input lag and less visual lag. But as far as NieR is concerned, variable performance can very much impact the gameplay because having the framerate drop at an inopportune moment can mean the difference between successfully dodging an attack or getting swatted upside the head and losing half your health.

the game so far runs really smooth for me, but i have noticed that graphically it does look a flat. i had to play around with the settings until i have turned off AA and things looked so much sharper. fan made patches are all fine and good but as long i can play it, i rather wait until the company officially creates one.

All I know is Square didn't give them a budget so they couldn't iron out the bugs. I get them during those escort missions.
