NIN is the shit.I don't have a favorite song, but my favorite album is the fragile.
interesting fact:trent reznor recorded the downward spiral album in the house where charles manson ordered the murders of sharon tate and several others.the house was to be demolished when he was finished recording so he took the door that had 'pig' written on it in blood when he finished the album.
Yeah, he wanted it demolished. Didn't know he took the door though. He called the studio 'le pig'.
yeah just watched a manson doc.he is one really morbid dude to want to even be in that house, let alone record an album there.I guess it might have been a bit of inspiration for him.

Basically I was just wondering how many of you Escapists listened to Nine Inch Nails, or any of Trent Reznor's music. Not many people I know listen to his music so I'm hoping i'll find some people here to talk about his albums etc.
So.. What's your favorite album/song/lyric?
They're actually one of my favourite bands. Saw them live a couple years ago and it was probably one of the best live performances I've ever seen. Currently listening to the song Echoplex right now.
Favourite album would probably be The Downward Spiral and song would be Discipline
I haven't seen that echoplex video before. That was awesome! It's one of my favorite songs, thanks for the vid.
I've met a lot of people who love discipline, I can't understand why people don't love echoplex as much a I do though... Hrmm...
And yeah the downward spiral is awesome. Mr self destruct, heresy, ruiner, that shit is crazy good!

Nah he didn't actually find out until after he bought it. He had it demolished because there was just too much history in it for him and he couldn't handle it. It's all on wikipedia or somewhere.

Can anybody tell me, is marilyn Manson in any way like nin? I know Trent and Manson used to be friends and stuff but music wise I don't know.

Yeah, they did a whole studio rehearsal session of videos for that album The Slip and it's all crazy awesome :D
Discipline I guess just has a more... upbeat feel to it? Not really sure, but both are great songs.
Totally agree on that. Mr. Self Destruct is probably my favourite song on there next to Heresy. Gotta love that opening sample from THX 1138 ^_^

Oh he made so many brilliant songs... I like most of his works, especially the dark and sinister lyrics.

Couldn't possibly pick a favourite, Hurt is brilliant, Terrible Lie...

How about his new project, How To Destroy Angels? She has such a beautiful voice...
Listen to the sound
of my Big Black Boots.

I've liked NiN since the early 90's though i've kind of tuned out since they released year zero/the slip.

I'd say my favourite albums are pretty hate machine and the fragile.

Pretty sure that would have been cleaned up by then. The door wouldn't still have the blood on it, it's quite a biohazard.

THX 1138, is that that movie by.... Who was it by again? George Lucas? Yeah that was quite artistic of him. And one of his songs has a sound clip of porn but I can't remember which one. In the fragile one of his songs ends with a short clip of kiss or something too.

I hated them when I was a kid but they have grown on me recently. I prefer other industrial bands like Machine Head and Rammstein but I've been meaning to give NIN a closer listen, thanks for reminding me!
I cannot think of a single song by Machine Head that I would label "industrial". Maybe we're thinking of two different bands? Albums like "The Blackening", "Through the Ashes of Empire", etc?
Sigh, I hate myself. I was thinking of Fear Factory but, for some reason, put Machine Head. I don't even really like Machine Head
So yeah, edit: Fear Factory

I never really liked them much, they always seemed to me like a more watered-down, emo version of Ministry.
really? i'm fine with people not liking NIN, but i can't see any comparison to Ministry, unless you're talking about his (Jourgensen's) crappy early stuff (With Sympathy... /shudder). i've always thought it was kinda weak to even classify Ministry as industrial or electronic, since pretty much everything Jourgensen has done since the late '80s is closer to speed-metal.

OT: i like NIN in general, but The Fragile is definitely my favorite of his albums. love every track on there except for Starfuckers, Inc..

I hate to be cliche but I think everything congealed for The Downward Spiral. It was as if everything he had been trying to do with his music came together for that album. It was was (and still is) like nothing I've ever heard before.

I still listen to some of Pretty Hate Machine and Broken, and I do enjoy The Fragile and all of the remix albums and maxi singles, but I don't care for anything he did after 2000. It just all sounds so simplistic and unoriginal by comparison.

Wait! I forgot. I did hear an amazing (and relatively new) instrumental by him on Pandora, and I haven't been able to find out what it's from. Also, I haven't yet heard the soundtrack to The Social Network.

It was Lucas, yes. One of his better films, in my opinion and very artistic indeed :3

Oh and the song with the sounds of a woman having an orgasm is on Big Man With a Gun. Just put with a shiteload of distortion. Wouldn't have even guessed that's what it was when I first heard it :p

I quite like the new direction he's done in with How to destroy Angels.

I loved starfuckers. Always made me laugh at memories of people on the net bagging the shit out of Justin bieber.
But I can see why you might not like it. It is a bit... Yeah.

I knew exactly what it was when I first heard it. I was like 'whaaa?' but it fitted with the song so I'm not complaining.
And I always get funny responses when I show friends mr self destruct and I tell them the sound at the start is the sound of a cop beating up a civilian.

Never been a huge fan.

I've noticed that lots of people like to jerk-off Johnny Cash when it comes to his sub par cover of "Hurt". For the record, let me say that the original is and always will be better than the cover, even if Johnny Cash is the one covering it.
