I recently downloaded the ninja blade demo having heard some good things about it from various magazines and websites from different stages of development, but I have to say it seems to be an unsightly rip-off of Ninja-Gaiden. Now I know what people are saying, that Ninja-Gaiden doesn't have a monopoly on ninja theme hack n' slashes. Normally I would agree, but from what the demo showcases I can't help but wonder if The Ninja Blade developers even bothered using any lubricant before going about raping the Ninja-Gaiden franchise.

Both games seem to take place in a Bladerunneresque future Japan that bear striking resemblance to one another, Ninja Blade going so far as to include practicly identical helicopters in the opening cinematic. Ninjas themselves are about as under-used as protagonists as a young aspiring knight who is also a vampire who won't hurt people but if your going to use them you can at least not put them in the EXACT SAME PSUDO FUTURE METROPOLIS!

Once into the thick of the demo and non-scripted combat commences the combat system in Ninja Blade is almost identical to Ninja Gaiden's with its two attack buttons, a jump button and even its own version of Ninja Gaiden's Ninpo attack (the big swirly fire or ice or whatever attack) In description this doesn't sound like much of a rip off but trust me it is. Not only does this game mimic Ninja Gaiden it is a poor mimicry at that, considering how much advertising and hype has been leading up to this game I would expect them to at least come up with at least an original combat system if not an original concept.

The least I can hope with this terrible game is that people recognize it for what it is, a cheap knock off that transparently if not OUTRAGEOUSLY copies Ninja Gaiden like a dumb kid sitting behind you in Saturday school.

(sorry if this is a rant but this has REALLY been annoying me)

That's what I thought when I saw the screen shots. However, with Team Ninja rioting, there doesnt look like there would be another Ninja Gaiden game, sadly. So even if it is a ripoff, its better than nothing.

I don't think it was really like Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Blade has level systems and whatnot while Ninja Gaiden was more of a hack-and-slash.

I already made a thread about this game and how it rips off Ninja Gaiden but I agree with your rant. I will just enjoy Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 all the more this fall and laugh at the pathetic clone that is Ninja Blade.

Well NG Shadow Dragon seems to take place in Feudal Japan, no tech anywhere so is it like an ancestor of Ryu, named Ryu
