It is the general conscensus amongst Ninja Gaiden fans that Ninja Gaiden 3 was a major fail. The rough equivalent of DMC 2 Razor's Edge or as I like to call it Real Edition not withstanding. It is clear to me that Team Ninja tried to make Ryu a character instead of just a generic dude. An icon that consumers would think about on the level of Dante or Kratos. Instead they failed miserably to actually turn Ryu into a character with their story and themes that were just so poorly executed that it was particularly infuriating since the gameplay was reduced in order to fit the theme. Lately I have been thinking about what could be done to make Ninja Gaiden 4 a success.
I think that the idea of creating a decent character was not a bad one. To that end I would like to see them try a different main character from Ryu. More specifically a Black Spider clan ninja. The BSC is without a leader since the events of NG2 and I think it would be interesting to play as a ninja trying to restore order to the clan.
Setting the hero as a BSC member also creates the opportunity to add in entirely different Ninpo, and fighting techniques. Team Ninja always seems to do a very good job of making their guest characters play differently from Ryu and I am looking forward to doing the chapters as each of the playable guest characters in RE when it comes out on PS3/360 in April. I think Team Ninja would be able to do some pretty creative things with a character that is not part of the dragon clan.
Besides it would be pretty cool that we got to play as a sort of mini-Genshin for an entire game. Thoughts? Flames?
