That's a well made spoof. The website is really convincing. In fact if I didn't know better, I'd say it was official.
The device is clever too. Nintendo should actually make this thing. ...only don't call it the 1DS.
What would you suggest? "DS Home"?

How about... Dual View? DS kinda makes it sound like it needs two screens when in fact there's just one on the handheld.

I really don't see the tablet comparison with the 2DS, which means the 1DS' joke of looking like a phone is ineffective as a form of comedy to me.

As far as I can see, the 2DS has two notable flaws; its stupid name and the lack of any screen protection, the former being almost irrelevant to the actual quality of the handheld and the latter being easily remedied by using the $40 you save to buy a case of some sort.

Button placement and the shape of the device deserve honorable mention but I'll have to wait till I actually hold the damned thing before I decide for sure whether there actual faults or just awkward differences.

I really hope this site was made just for the "lols." There's something I find irritating about jokes like this and I would hate to think people would take this seriously in such a way.

As for whether or not I would buy the 1DS if it were real?
I probably would not buy a 1DS because it would be too gimped. The 2DS rids itself of the not at all necessary 3D and offers the same experience for a cheaper price and is put in a more durable package. The 1DS is too small and looks frail. Forget little kids breaking it, I would probably crack the screen when tossing it in my drawer. With it being nothing but a little rectangle it wouldn't support my hands very well and it would be hard to switch from the D-pad to the circle-pad, as well as the ABXY buttons to the Start/Select buttons. With the 2DS I could keep my palms at the bottom, index fingers at the top, and my thumbs comfortably in the middle.

I'm guessing if Nintendo gets wind of this there will a cease and desist or some other legal method to take it down.

It's probably fair use with no profit being generated but I'm not sure Nintendo will see it that way.

Parody is protected under the fair use clause of copyright law, if the website is in the United States, which it probably is.

it has to be made clear that it is a parody somewhere on the site though, or else it counts as slander

I've worked in communications law for quite a long time and have never heard anything like that.

I honestly don't know why people are getting upset with the 2DS. It literally has no baring on the 3DS or the rest of our lives what so ever. It's like complaining that there are child-seats at a restaurant; because that's exactly what this is. Nintendo just wanted to make something for even younger children.

Just be happy they made a separate console for them rather then nerfing the original.
Yes it does. It means there is less chance for them to reduce the price to the 3DS because they already offer a cheaper variant. And for someone who wants a 3DS and doesn't want the monstrosity they announced, this means I'll likely be waiting a while.

"Would you consider buying this if it were real, or is it just for laughs?"

Both, but yes, I would buy this, if only so that I could FINALLY PLAY SMT4 ON A FREAKING TV!!!!

Holy bananas.

People really need to chill the fuck out.
The thing was never meant to cater to you. If you don't like it, then just by a regular fucking 3DS.

This better just be a lighthearted joke, because if not, then it seems that the gaming community has one big stick up it's ass that really needs to be pulled out soon.

Yes... Because of its pricing and it reminds me of the semi-failure of the GBA wireless connection packs... Why did they only sell those in single-pack instead of two-per-pack and why did they only seem to advertise them for just Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green (and I guess Emerald, too)?

Now, can we have a spoof of the WiiU where the WiiU controller cannot be used as an extra screen to disconnect from the console when someone wants to watch the telly and "forces" the user to connect the controller to the console like a wired controller? When that happens, can it be called the WiiUC??

Looks like a Nintendized PlayStation Portable, to me. Actually, it looks easier to use than a PSP. I wouldn't mind having one of those things, actually.

I have a feeling Nintendo will actually start a cease and desist soon.

Already on various news sites you have Nintendo consumers believing this is an actual thing to buy in stores at some point. Not good.

That's the funny thing, I honestly wouldn't mind having something like that despite the fact that it's a parody. XD

Would they have grounds to do one though as Parody is covered under the Fair Use Act of 1976, an act the really needs to be updated greatly. >.>
Plus it's sad because the parody actually looks very nice as well.
Anyway, the link to the site has been dead for a while, and if you try to go there all it is is a blank page with the word "Fin" at the top.
