Nintendo 64 Help

Hey everybody, I have noticed that a lot of people usually get help here..And well, I need help.

A while ago I found my Nintendo 64. But it was missing the compisote cable. I bought a new AV cable from the internet, and conected it up to my Tv but nothing came through.
I am using a Hdtv, and nothing happend.

Is there anyway i can connect my Nintendo 64, up to my tv and still have it work?

In case it matters, the model tv i am using is Bush, i hvae tried a few things, but nothing has worked.

test it on an old CRT tv first. if it doesnt work, you probably have a bad composite cable. Now your television is semi new, and I can assume you have several different sets of A/V jacks, yes? Try using different composite jack sets (my hdtv has like, six different sets of composite/component connectors). Also make sure you're using the right imput channel. I connected my PS2 to my hd tv (again, it has six sets) so I had to cycle through all the different imput channels (not tv channels mind you) after turning the console on. Finally, after I found A/V Imput 5 I saw it playing.

That it's an HDTV should have no effect. The N64 should work fine through AV

Try flipping between the different AV channels (as mentioned above). But also try it on a different TV and make sure the connector on the back is clean/not full of fluff. Failing that you could try a different cable.
Is the cable from a reputable brand? If it's a dud you can use the RF cable out of a SEGA Megadrive II or the AV lead from a Gamecube.
I know because I have used both. Cheaper than buying new parts.


All of this assumes the N64 itself is not in someway bricked. It'll be at least 8 years old now so it's a possibility.

Small thing about Nintendo consoles: up until the Wii, more or less all of them used the same video output port. If you've got a Gamecube, the cable from that will work too.

Ah yes the N64, personally I think it is by far the greatest consoles man has ever made. If I was stranded on an island and only could only bring one console N64,
N64 every time.

banjo tooey (twoey?...twooey?). The. single. most. awesome. game. of. all. time. But now completely vanished, have two (hardely har) pay a presidents ransom to get a copy. You could turn into a van...for gods sake.

The first few replies pretty much cover it, BUT this might be relevant. I recently got an HDTV and discovered my Wii wouldn't display with the standard composite cable. It should have worked, logically, but it didn't. I bought a component video cable [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video] and it works perfectly. (NB. If anyone is planning to do this, it has to be a Wii-compatible cable, but the third-party ones are just as good as the Nintendo one and much cheaper.)

+1 vote for the N64 being the best console ever. Nostalgia be damned.
