Nintendo (one of the oldest gaming companies out there) are having their market on games threatened by a couple of smartphones (Even odder in the iPhone's case since Apple's last attempt at a console was a complete failure.)

How the mighty have fallen.

You're right Nintendo, game's shouldn't be disposable, they should be milked over and over again until they are so ridiculously spent that the main characters have no meaning and are simply templates for "generic hero"
They are already doing that... Just look at the 50-or-so games that Nintendo feature Mario in and the numerous 3rd party game appearances
You mean there is some parallel between what I said and what Nintendo is doing?

Imagine that! What a fantastic coincidence, thanks for pointing that out, I was just mentioning something completely unrelated to the topic and didn't notice that I was describing something Nintendo does!

Yes I understand this post is rude, but COME ON, your ability to completely miss the intentional point in my post borders on satire.

You do realize I might have been intending for the post to be satirical right?
Huh, I didn't see that since it was just a plain statement with no flavor.

my bad.

It's impossible to give a post flavor when it is just text
Something like, "Nintendo milking characters? No, they would never do that, well, maybe the fifty or so games featuring Mario" is an example of a post with a satirical flavor to it.

Then buy other games besides those? I don't understand how people can say that, and then laugh off games like "Steel Diver" that are actually doing new and different things. It just... boggles me.
First off, the fact that other games are available doesn't mean it's alright to shamelessly milk franchises and then take swipes at other organizations for devaluing games (not that I approve the app store). A good thing (franchises that aren't milked) doesn't mean that it's no longer valid to point out or criticize a major problem (franchises that are milked). I didn't say there were no original games, nor did I say Nintendo is useless or anything like that, I simply pointed out a problem and that's a valid argument unless you show that it is not in fact a problem, rather than just mentioning that there are other things that don't have said problem.

Secondly, innovation is only a good thing when it actually produces something good as an end result. I could make a game about throwing screwdrivers at the moon, and it would certainly be different, but it probably wouldn't be any good. Innovation for innovation's sake is not a good thing.

Looking over this I realize that if you apply the wrong tone to it when reading it I sound like an ass, so I'm just gonna mention that that's not my intention.
