Oh goody, another opportunity to pull this old article out.

Personally, I don't see it as a bubble, just plain old market domination. Here's my evidence:

Which console is consistently on top?

It's true for every console though, there's shit everywhere, the problem with the Wii it's the turd screams and paints itself with glowing paint, instead of rolling over and die in silence.
Very true, and the articles my Nintendo Power magazines aren't helping either.

The flame wars have already begun! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WHILE YOU STILL CAN, YOU MINORITY OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE COMMON SENSE!!!!

As for the article, I'm not surprised. Companies will always retort no matter what shape a product is in, and in Nintendo's case, the product is still doing great (sales-wise).

The problem for Nintendo is, the Wii was so successful because it got non gamers to become casual gamers.

Now those people are going to start realizing the 360 and PS3 are much better, and are going to start using those instead now that the Wii has introduced them to gaming.

A Wii like console isn't a trick that will work twice.
I think one thing people are missing is that this fad will last until the next gen of consoles.
People who bought the Wii aren't going to go buy the 360 or PS3, but they may be looking for something else in next-gen consoles when they come out. What Nintendo has done is steer itself into the position of "innovators" where the 360 can claim to have "the most/best games" and PS3 has "the best graphics". Now that Microsoft and Sony are jumping on "innovations" (taking Nintendo's ideas), maybe its time for Nintendo to upgrade the graphics? They will have an equal console to next-gen Sony and Microsoft, while having the largest fanbase/userbase and enough goodwill that they can retain them. This battle is lost for Microsoft and Sony, its onto the next one.

Exactly, the Wii is set, but I don't think this "casual shovel-ware" type model is going to work again.

Yeah, I can agree with that. I love Nintendo and I don't want to see it going the way of Atari.

Nintendo is completely fine; it's hilarious to watch grown men fail again and again at their doomsaying despite the fact that this is what common sense dictates: it's simple and cheap. The Wii's market is NOT going to somehow upgrade to the PS3 or 360 because of Kinect or Move. They care about fun, not getting a base tan with HD polygons. In a way they're probably truer gamers than we are.

Pointing out that they sold 20m units is equally as credible as "it didn't sell, but we learned our lesson. Success!!!!"? o_O

I'm pretty sure selling roughly the amount of your competition's combined consoles while expanding gaming to a larger audience counts as a "bubble", not a fad.

Also, we've got two Mario games only a few months apart, a Metroid that should come out soon, and a Zelda and possibly Kirby in the works. And they had already made Super Paper Mario, Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and a Mario Party, compared to what: 4 wii _____ titles? (Sports, Sports Resort, Fit, and Music?). They've been making games for both their long-running fanbase and the newcomers.
You're misunderstanding whats happened with the wii.

The small handful of 'core' titles you listed were utter failures if you go by copies sold to consoles sold. They actually sold fewer copies than most wii shovelware titles. If a game experienced a similar percentage on the ps3 or 360, developers would be jumping through windows.

Wiisports and wiifit are still, to this day, the most successful "games" on the platform, and there is simply nothing left down that road. Once you start talking about "attachments" and such (wii motion plus) the average person's eyes glaze over.

The wii was always a dead end, it was just a dead end paved with platinum bricks. The fad is ending, and nintendo has to either go back to making video games or figure out a way to transition into a toy company.

Dude, I have so much to say about this comment. But I'll leave it at this. The Wii sells more than your PS3 or 360. Sit down kid.

@Hopeless Bastard

It's a fact. And where's the Wii now? Idk, making probably the biggest impact on E3 this year as a company. Bringing out awesome titles like Metroid Other M and Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword. That's where the Wii is now.

I'm glad that Nintendo's still kicking around, myself. Maybe it's because I suffer from that genetic defect called "being part of Generation NES" but it seems to me that Nintendo's not going anywhere. Why? Because they don't market specifically to older gamers and they don't have total reliance on third-party developers. Don't get me wrong, there are some third-parties I would love to see stay around (Double Fine, Valve, Blizzard and Capcom, among others), but since Nintendo can be self-reliant, the second that Sony and Microsoft's game development branches become less-than-profitable, they go bye-bye while Nintendo stays around and can keep making their own games instead of keeping around most third parties, so that means either accept that Nintendo, as a game company, is not going anywhere for a while or stay the course with your hardcore games while you can because like the grim and gritty comics of the 1990s they're just a passing fad.

(Yes, most of this stuff MovieBob has said, but I say it because I agree with it.)
