Read the interview. The interviewer asks "Why aren't you releasing any core games?" her response is that they are, and cites Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and says the sales figures indicate that hardcore gamers are buying and playing those games, and that if three games a year isn't enough for you, well, you must really love Nintendo. And yes, that is a good situation for them, because it means anything they do release along those lines will be an instant success. Se also points to ExciteBots and Punch Out as being in the same vein.

I take it nobody on this forum knows about how to run a successful LONG-TERM business?

Anybody? Nobody? Thought so.

How to piss off your fans:
1. Stop goldeneye from being released
2. Not give us enough hardcore games
3. No starfox wii
4. They don't kill off slippy

Y'know ninty, if you made games for the core gamers, the gamers would respect you more and look forward more to what you're doing next.

So, I'm thinking Denise Kaigler is one of those girls who likes guys who treat them like crap...and for some reason think that applies in economics.

To be honest, I personally don't see why everyone is so foamy at the mouth for more Nintendo "goodness".
I haven't completed a Zelda game since Majora's mask because I'm sick and tired of being Link saving Princess Zelda from Ganon/Ganondorf for the umpteen billionth time.
Mario...same deal, played about 1/3 of Galaxies and realized it was SM64 on a sphere rather than a plane.
Metroid is the only series that has been kept remotely fresh and has actually ventured into the 21st century (I'm tired of hearing the 6-month old "baby talk" that is Nintendo's excuse for Zelda voiceovers).

Point being, I don't care if Nintendo releases more of its "core games" because its core games got old and stale 5 years ago.

This isn't the first time Denise has pulled a stunt like this. Why on Earth does she still have a job?

Because ultimately, results matter. And as NPD numbers show, as much as people like to rage over comments like these, they apparently are doing something right.

Now do I think the bottom is going to drop out at some point? In my opinion, I'd say yes. While the casual gamer is more numerous and pervasive, the number of games to be bought, by their very nature, may not be as high. Once Nintendo comes off of the Wii console selling high, we'll see if the system truly has any staying power.

Though with the release of Punch-Out, perhaps it has some assured life yet.

Unfortunately as much as everyone wants to get their digs in at Nintendo, it's all impotent in the face of what the facts tell us, and they tell us that right now, at this very moment, Nintendo has trashed the competition in profitability.
