That Netflix series is probably a rumor made for someone to read wild forum posts over the weekend. I doubt Nintendo would do anything in live action, even Zelda, without building up their multimedia presence first. Also, we've already had people complain about Link possibly speaking. (Even though he is the players' "link" in the games and still communicates through grunts, psyonic melding, text boxes chosen by the player, and unspoken (as in not displayed in the text box) dialog.) That alone splits the fanbase in stupid ways that make a show risky.
The Pikmin shorts might have been the only way Miyamoto could do more things with the Pikmin universe without waiting serveral years for another game to be greenlit. It might have also been a marketing tactic to get people interested in Pikmin 3, as the demo for it went live soon after the shorts. (And as usual for Nintendo, their advertising efforts were months overdue.)
The quality of live platform seems to have them stoked. I don't know what they have planned past sleep monitors, but hopefully they aren't once again concentrating on just the Japanese market. It might be quite a shock to them if their products collect dust on the store shelves because, outside of their home country, their existing fans want games (And not more fucking Mario, thank you very much, Nintendo.) and the soccer moms and older customers that might have heard of the Wii, if not owned it, have already forgot what a "Nintender" is. It just feels weird to have them gushing about something non-game related, especially when they don't even give us many details. (Also, they might have to actually advertise whatever this program is going to produce, because otherwise, without even viral marketing on health and social sites, it will do worse than the Wii U.)
