Apparently, someone on NeoGaf has posted some info on what the new nintendo console is gonna be like, and if its true, then ho boy.

We already know Nintendo is developing a controller with a built-in screen. Since that info got leaked there have been paralels between Apple's iPad and how Nintendo used the GBA as a controller for a few Gamecube-games. But this new "Screen-controller" brings another dimension - Feel. Our source uses the name "Nintendo Feel"

? Haptic technology is a form of tactile feedback used to simulate the experience of touching different objects shown on screen. The player can move their fingertips across a surface and clearly feel the difference between soft, smooth or rugged textures. Electronic companies across the world have been conducting research in this field for years. It?s been rumored that Apple is close to patenting a similar technology, and we?ve seen the Toshiba demonstration of ?New Sensation UI Solution?, that applies a thin film over a screen in order to achieve a haptic effect. In Nintendo?s case, this is a natural progression of both the Nintendo DS touch screen and the Wii technology.

how long? You ask? Probably about 10 minutes after someone gets home with the new console on the release day (gotta account for how long it takes to set the console up, after all)

This could be interesting. A gimmick, certainly, but an interesting one if it's true.

Also, people have been making porn video games for decades. This just lets them make a "better" porn game.

Yeah I had wondered about a touch-screen controller's practicality... you'd have to look down all the time to see what button you're pressing... but if this is true, it remedy's that problem. But that's like saying "We equipped a fan directly into a toilet to immediately suck away the stench of your waste as you shit."

I hope there's at least some hardwired face buttons around the touch screen. Admittedly, the concept around Four Swords and Crystal Chronicles to have to use your GBA as the controller was something I thought was rather neat if really troublesome to set up. A built-in screen on a controller in a similar fashion should be chiefly used for things like Inventory management and extra data that would typically be on-screen, removing non-essential UI clutter that may get in the way. But it MUST HAVE REAL BUTTONS.

Serious: This sounds a little suspicious. But for the sake of arguement, I'll assume it's true.
There isn't much practical use on this alone. Sure, it's cool, and is getting us one step closer to a holodeck, but by itself, it just seems unneeded. Still, kudos for Nintendo if this is true. Everyone laughed when the DS came out... and now every mobile device uses a touch screen. Time will tell if this goes the way of the DS or the Wii...

Not really. You still have to upgrade your computer every few years if you want to be able to continue playing the latest releases.

It doesn't matter what type of gamer you are, there will always be pressure to stay ahead of the curve.

As for the new Nintendo console, I'll reserve judgement until the official announcement. I wish they would shift their focus back to just making good games though.
