Me, myself have always thought that Nintendo makes too many games that aim for children or party games and not enough hardcore games, although that they do have a select bunch. Except here they are with the Wii U a promising console and they are kinda just throwing it away with games such as Nintendo Land and other such games. i think that they should make or have more hardcore games on there like they did with Zombie U or Batman Armored Edition and make more games like that.

I think it's a little early too say they are wasting an opportunity with the Wii U. Also Nintendo games usually tend to be hardcore anyway, they just have their own unique style.

The thing I've always felt about Nintendo is they come up with these amazing ideas and brilliant characters then don't know what to do with them.

The Wii had a lot of potential that was squandered on lazy shovelware and predictable, samey stick-waggle QTE's making up 99% of gameplay; and instead of coming up with new IP now, for the most part, they seem content to just re-release Super Mario Bro.s for the umpteenth time.

The WiiU will sale well as long as Nintendo doesn't pull a 'SEGA'.

Folks like myself WANT those Mario, LoZ, Metriod, etc...games.

Yes, a new IP WOULD be nice, but a GREAT LoZ game would be cool as well.

I'D LOVE to see a new Starfox, that isn't crap, or even some 'lesser know' series get the full console love.

Well... The consoles been out for 3 weeks?
You can't judge it's games based on that -.-
They are going to / have ported Black Ops, Assassins Creed 3, Mass Effect 3, Batman.
I think that's a fair amount of "hardcore hours" already
Althou I hate the terms Hardcore and Casual, if you play games you are a gamer and you play the games you like. But that's another discussion.

I don't understand why they would need to make more 'hardcore' titles, every other platform is flooded with them and what Nintendo do best are their more accessible titles. Nintendo excel at making games geared towards younger audiences, yet older audiences can still find tons of enjoyment in them, games that are easy for anyone to play and enjoy but difficult to master. What I believe is keeping Nintendo afloat is their extremely unique selection of titles that you simply can't find on any other platform. You don't buy a Nintendo console to play Call of Duty or Assassins Creed.

Just because a game is kid friendly doesn't necessarily mean that can't also be "hardcore".

Ni No Kuni has all the kid friendliness of a Studio Ghibli film, but based on what I've seen, the massiveness the world looks like it could rival any old school JRPG. (Strangely enough, Ni No Kuni is not a Nintendo game, unless you count the DS, but it demonstrates my point).

The same can be said for the Legend of Zelda series. Nintendo only releases a LOZ game about twice per generation, but whenever they do, it's a solid game. I'd prefer they take their time and make solid games that are few and far between rather than incorporate elements from gritty shooter #346 and release a new game every year that's pretty much just an expansion of the game that came out the previous year.

In the meantime, they'll release shovelware and party titles to hold sales over.

Are you acquainted with the term "Nintendo Hard"? I wouldn't dismiss games as non-hardcore just because they star cute, cuddly critters. It's true they've been beating their five-headed dead horse (Mario, Zelda, Kong, Kirby and Samus) for as long as they've been around, but where's it say they can't do that? Clearly it's working out for them, or they'd come up with something else.

A funny example is kirby's epic yarn (yeah i played it and love it). Like most nintendo games it is fun, colorful and getting to the normal ending isn't that difficult. Getting the game to 100% (nintendo doesn't have outgame achievements but they have them ingame) you need to memorize every single nook and cranny of every level to find everything(sometimes making split second decisions).

Specially the racing levels had me retry dozens of times to get a 100% score on that level.

Indeed good Sir!

I did not buy a Wii and 3DS (admittedly for the kids, but still) to play hardcore titles.
I bought them to play Super Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong and so on.

If I'm in the mood for more hardcore games I go sit down at the PC or my PS3.

Not every console needs to be the same, and fortunately Nintendo usually is not.

Yeah, this.

Let Nintendo make kid-friendly games, they're pretty much the only company who still do. We've got Sony, Microsoft, EA, Activision-Blizzard, Konami, Capcom, Square Enix, Atlus, Valve, Bethesda, and all of the independent developers that they fund and support when they publish other games. Why should Nintendo bother trying to carve out a piece of that pie when they've pretty much got their own entire pie all to themselves?

Besides, Nintendo games aren't intrinsically 'easy' or 'casual' by virtue of being made/published by Nintendo. Go play Donkey Kong Country Returns. You'll see what I mean.

Well I guess we need to clear some things up:
- kids themed games can still be hardcore in gameplay, heck Nintendo was the daddy of hardcore games (but that is hard to do when you got to sell some waggle shit)
- and games themed for adults does not mean hardcore gameplay, in most modern triple A titles letting your dog drool on the controls is enough to get through it

And since Nintendo never did anything adult themed that is probably not something to just dive into with dev teams that did nothing of the sort, plus every fan goes to them for the excellent cartoon games only they make.
As for the rest of the games well that is up to third party devs and you need to go bark up their tree, they are the ones who port their shit so start racking up some petitions.

So many facepalms have been given.

The only time this ever even slightly applied was in the Wii's reign. But Nintendo admitted their mistake, which cost them their first annual loss. Now with the Wii U, they want to focus on the more mature crowd deeper than they ever have before. They're going into more M-rated games, with stuff like Bayonetta 2 and a proposed sequel to Eternal Darkness, right off the bat (and it seems like they're also interested in buying the rights to both Banjo-Kazooie and Conker). And even besides that, an ESRB rating doesn't determine what's "hardcore" and what's not. After all, (especially before the Wii and returning to such as of now) Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid have all been far more "hardcore" than the stuff that often tries to pass itself off as such today.
