Uh oh. Unlike many other Patent Trolls, Hillcrest has a valid case here, and they've called a cease and desist on the Wii.

This is good.

No more Wii Production = Hard to find Wii's = Skyrocket in value = Aries Split becomes a millionaire selling Wii's.

This isn't the first time Nintendo has been hit by this...
Unlike previous patent trolls, these guys are doing something with it. But something tells me that enough money will be able to solve this problem.

It depends on Hillcrest's attitude if they have a claim, they can accept a payout from Nintendo or Wii's would be withdrawn from the market.

I personally think this is good because it shows peoples patents are protected, and I'm not just saying that because I would buy up a lot of eu Wii's and sell them to the US.

Y'know. Why does everyone feel the need to sue each other? Why can't we just sit down and drink some tea and have a nice chat and reach a conclusion together ;___;

Stupid American sue culture, the lowest and dirtiest way to make a quick buck, Hell Even Drug Dealers go to more trouble to "earn" their money.

It's a cheap trick to ride on Nintendo's succes. You don't see anyone sue $ony for their motion controller.

I always wonder why it takes them this long to come out with these lawsuits - the Wii's been on sale for nearly two years, and Hillcrest are only picking up on the motion control now?

Uhm..Wasn't there another company whining about the motion controls like last week? What, do they get sued by a different company each week? :|

Lawsuit attempt against Nintendo number 2342562954346736345985. Preemptive result: failure.

As much as I honestly think Nintendo needs a kick in the ass to start making good games and systems again, they're too much of a monolith to be touched by something like this.

Didn't sony get sued because of the dual shock? plus the sixaxis is so crap, who would want to say they invented that ?

The answer is simple. If Nintendo is using stolen technology, the company is making millions of dollars while Hillcrest is making none of it. And don't even say that that isn't important.

IF Nintendo had purchased rights to this technology, Hillcrest stood to gain hundreds of thousands. So, Nintendo effectively stole hundreds of thousands of dollars. Would you not sue if you were in the same spot? I mean, what else is Hillcrest going to do with the tech if it is already being used by Nintendo? it is no longer revolutionary technology and if they do try to use it forum goers would probably accuse them of rip;ping off nintendo.

This is of course if they have a legitimate honest claim and Nintendo is guilty of this IP infringement. Obviously it is not clear cut because of the court action.

If this is a money grab (which has happened) then shame on them.

In the end the Wii will still be shipped to the U.S. market until the consoles life comes up, guilty or not. Nintendo would gladly dump $2,000,000,000 to make the additional millions that lie within the platform.

I'm not sure what you mean, at least as to what's supposed to differentiate these guys from other patent trolls. There's nothing in that article of any substance relating to their complaint, nor is there anything in any other article I've been able to hunt down.

Some people just don't even try anymore...

To keep on topic, this will cost nintendo a tidy sum to keep it all under their toupes.
