Nintendo needs to have more HD remakes.

Since Nintendo has finally made it to the HD era for consoles, it's time for some classic N64, GameCube, and Wii games to get an HD upgrade. They don't need to redo the actual art style or graphics but just need high resolution textures and models. Instead of bringing out one HD remake at a time, they need a collection. A Zelda HD collection could consist of OoT, Majora's mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyword Sword. That would have been a proper anniversary for Zelda. These games are great but look really pixelated on my 50" HD TV. Metroid Prime Trilogy would look great too. Xenoblade, resident evil 4, Pikmin, all these games that should have had HD resolution but couldn't need to be rereleased. This is what would get me to buy a Wii U in the coming weeks instead of waiting for more killer apps down the road. I would begin saving money this week if this stuff was announced.

Games that aren't available on current gen consoles should definitely be remade, because then everyone can experience them. Anyone who is saying that Nintendo shouldn't bother and should exclusively make new stuff, is just being downright selfish because they probably have the working past gen consoles and all the old games. Well guys that's fantastic for you, but what about those of us who are big Zelda fans and never had an N64? I want to play Majora's mask but I cant track down the gamecube remake. So unless you are willing to lend me your N64 and copy of Majora's mask, can you please think of someone else and not dismiss the idea.

As for some games like Resident evil 4 and Xeno blade, we don't need shiny new graphics for them. You can still have a perfectly good Resi 4 experience in crappy wii/gamecube graphics. Updating something just to make it look better is a colossal waste of time. These games do not need remakes because you can buy them and play them on your wii u.

As for your HD Zelda anniversary collection idea, its great but its got about as much chance of happening as them hand making it just for you then flying it over to you. With the president of Nintendo wearing a Princess Zelda outfit. HD remakes usually consist of about 3 games, Nintendo would prefer to charge you individually for their games rather than give you a bargain.

I would rather they actually tried making new games rather than just repackaging and reselling old stuff that didn't need the HD reboot.

I'm largely against remakes and remasters in most cases where the game being remade isn't hard to get a hold of, isn't particularly old and doesn't really need the HD reboot to be fun and enjoyable. The recent glut of HD collections containing games in zero need of it baffles me. DMC, Silent Hill, Sly Cooper and so-on.

Speaking of, Wind Waker HD is totally unnecessary for the above reasons. Plus, due to the game's aesthetic it still looks fairly nice even now. Utterly frivolous and a fairly blatant cash grab.

Why would you pay full whack for an upscaled version of a game you likely already own? It just seems like a waste of money.

Considering most of the games that get primed for HD remakes are from the PS2-ish era of games, they fall in this wonderful economic arsecrack of being worth very very little, to the point where I picked up both games in the Silent Hill HD Collection, on the PS2 for about a quarter of the price I would've paid had I gone with the HD collection.

Even engaging in the scenario where you don't own a specific console, shit isn't that pricy these days, it still probably works out cheaper for you to buy the console + game in question unless you're dealing with something that's become inexplicably rare.

SD games on a LCD aren't pretty, it's nowhere near the same as playing them on an old CRT with round pixels and scanline charm.

Besides not everyone has an extensive collection of all the old games, I don't have anything as I've never owned a Ninty console and my Megadrive and PS1/2 games were stolen years ago. And I've no interest filling my house with old consoles and games just so I can brag to others on You Tube about the size of the collection. Generally I stick with emulation but many of the PS1/2 era stuff is imperfect, so if the devs puts out a game I want to play and it's an improvement over the emulation than I'll gladly buy it. Dayatona USA and Virtual On-OT XBLA quality is what I'ld like to see, Or even better quality boxed collections of games like DMC HD collection.

I'd put the old Zelda / Mario / Metriod games at the top of my list. Also want Starwars Rogue Squadron & F-Zero, also Sin and Punishment 1 which hasn't aged well in the graphical dept.

Also if I'm to buy old games I'd much rather pay the devs for an HD port than pay some collector / dealer on Ebay

So, when old films get digitally-remastered released to DVD, followed by Blu-Ray and digital copy, anyone who doesn't completely ignore it is all "Yay! Hooray! Updated to the new video hardware system!"

But when videogames get HD rereleases, most people are all like...
EEEUUUWYEEEAAAAUUUGHGHHGHGHGHGH!!!!!?!!!*&#&@!!!!!bbbhg! How dare they!? Imminant cash-grab! They want to live on past success! How dare they port their games to new hardware so people can keep using it after the old one stops working!? THAT'S EVIIIIIL!!!

Seriously, this crap's getting old. HD rereleases are good. Very good. No one's complaining about when this happens to every other form of media ever, but when it happens to videogames, people start whining.

No, no they don't.
The old games still exist and function. I'd be up for digital downloads/ Gamecube virtual console, but re-releasing games with graphical updates is just unnecessary.
We're better that that snotty "Games HAVE to be in HD or I'm not gonna play it, humph" mentality.

The last couple of years have given us Steel Diver, The Rolling Western, Pushmo, and frickin' XENOBLADE, but that contradicts the whole "Nintendo does nothing but rehashes" narrative, which is soooo inconvenient.

I like the idea behind the Windwalker HD.

There is a new Zelda on the way, it's supposed to be rethinking it all. That's good. It's going to take a long time though. So they re-release another game to hold us over. That works because they're re-releasing while we wait.

I agree in that, they shouldn't just re-release everything just for the sake of money but I'm also torn because it is indeed hard to find great classic games.

As i've said before I started gaming right at the very beginning of it all. Had an Atari 2600 when I was a lad. The graphics were god awful looking back. Spectrum ZX - awful. Atari ST - awful. Amiga - awful. You get the point.

So now, after 32 years of watching and playing games, I like them to look good. I've lived with shit graphics for years and don't want them anymore. That's pretty much the one and only reason I don't like a huge chunk of indie games that come out. They look like games I used to play in the 80's.

So now i'm a graphics whore.

I didn't spend a small fortune on my PC to play games that look like someone shat out in Flash in 30 minutes.
