Well yeah, most galls prefer Kirby to The Master Chief or Nathan Drake. This is true.
I don't smell any sarcasm coming from your post. But I'll give it the benefit of doubt. >___________>

OT: I'm not being sexist or anything but with that statement, Nintendo just finished getting rid of their small fanbase who kept saying the Wii could be just as 'hardcore' as the PS3 or 360. No, it's not like it matters. Just because a guy plays on the Wii doesn't mean he's gay or has daddy issues or whatever. But I can already hear the comments those stereotypical frat boys are gonna babble. "Oh, you play on the Wii? What a pussy! LOLOLOOLOOLOLOL1!11!!"

But assuming we live in a civilized world where people can get past that statement, I applaud Nintendo at the same time I worry about them. They're clearly trying to broaden their horizons what with the games they've released as of lately. That's fine, but you can only rely on women who want to simulate a workout for too long. Same with kids with an attention span of 2 seconds. Or grandparents. Good for you for pulling them in. But it doesn't seem to me like they're the kind of gamers who would buy a game every week or so. I don't know; I could be wrong.

My bad, I should have been more specific.

You don't mean to say a girl is more likely to buy only Kirby-like games over M-rated, more "hardcore" games like Halo or Uncharted, do you?

There's plenty potential for female friendly reimagining of classic Nintendo franchises.

Cooking Mama/Metroid crossover here we come.

I'm kidding. I'd probably play it if it was real, though.

As a female gamer, I have to say, that's a little insulting. Women are enjoy just as much of a diverse range of games as guys, hell, one of my best friends has Amnesia: The Dark Descent as her favorite game.

In regards to bringing new gamers more 'into the fold,' as it were, Iwata actually did address this in the shareholder meeting while answering another question. It's his hope that the "Miiverse" they're introducing will help people discover more games that they like through the (moderated) comments people post about X or Y game. For example, if you bought, say, Cooking Metroid for the Wii U, the people who play that game might make comments recommending similar titles like Rune Moon: Capitalism Ho! and The Sims 4. Whether or not this will actually work well remains to be seen, but Nintendo is definitely focused on the issue.

...okay, this has been bugging me for the past couple of months but...what's with all the Nintendo hate lately? Ever since the Wii U has been announced, there has been a resurgence of people who want Nintendo to fail...because its Nintendo? What gives?
Elsewhere in the shareholder meeting, Iwata pointed out that a lot of people are now acting like the Wii was popular from the moment it was announced, when in fact it was quite badly maligned. The Nintendo DS suffered similar doubts before it became a hit. He posited that the backlash against the Wii U is the same kind of deal, where people react badly to new ideas partly just because they're new. So, it may just be that.

Really? Sounds a bit like bragging, doesn't it?

...and can they please never again use the word, "Miiverse"?!

In my statement, I wasn't talking about individual tastes and preferences. I would guess that if five women were placed in room with examples of Kirby on one side and Halo on the other, each women were a Tabula Rasa of sorts, acting only on their own inborn tendencies, three out of the five women would be more drawn to the bright colors and infantile qualities of Kirby, rather than the harsher, darker, and less friendly atmosphere of Halo.
This is my hypothesis.

If you find my ideas lacking, I would encourage you to posit a correction. I like to hear other peoples thoughts.

I won't respond to insults though. Just saying.

No, not A girl, average girls. As in a numerical average, not a common average. Perhaps I used poor examples of games as well, Uncharted seems like more neutral ground in retrospect.

Wasn't trying to insult, just pointing out that what you said and are still saying is mostly projection on your part. For example, Kirby is a cute and cuddly character, until you start thinking about what Kirby actually does. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/4850-National-Kirby-Day] And Halo is actually a really goofy game, especially if you play it at a LAN party. The assumption that three out of five women would prefer Halo would depend heavily on the sample size and where you took the people for the survey. Women are just as capable of liking something a guy likes, and so much depends not only on the content itself, but how they're exposed, the view points they're exposed to before and after playing, its such a crap shoot that you'd have trouble proving correlation in a study of any size.

I think I agree with you. Good job.
