Except, as I said....he said NOTHING that could be remotely construed as throwing down a challenge gauntlet. He basically just said "here's what we have to offer, and we're pretty confident in our product".
There's an inherent problem in replying to two people with one response, and that's that it's kind of hard to tailor a one size fits all response.

I said nothing about a challenge gauntlet, rather that the false dichotomy presented was, well, a false dichotomy. Oh, and that his statement was kind of begging for ridicule. Which, you know, I think his actual statements still fall under. I know it's easier to say I didn't read them, and just went for the Escapist's usual misleading comments, but still. Try paying attention to what I'm actually saying if you're going to try and shame me about not reading what someone said.

Sometimes, ignorance is not bliss, people.
Irony, dear.

No, what you said was: "Then maybe he should keep his mouth shut?"

Pardon me for being crazy, but isn't that how every company should approach their business strategy? Namely, by saying "okay, here's our product, let's see what our opponents can do now"? And being part of a large popular company, wouldn't you want your figureheads making positive statements and oozing confidence about your new product?

Imagine if he'd come out and said this instead: "Hey guys! We released a buggy console with very few games and a gimmick that causes a lot of processor bottlenecking. We're pretty sure Sony and Microsoft are going to kick our asses this time!"
Context, dear.

It's easy to follow quotes back to the source. Of course, if you're done with ad hominems, perhaps you could go back to point one (context) and accept that I was replying to the specific context you created. You presented two ridiculous alternatives as though they were the only relevant choices. That is, in fact, a false dichotomy.

If you want a further conversation, I suggest a more honest attempt at communicating here.

Is he not aware of the 5 GB mandatory update for the console? Is he not aware that if the power is lost during this update people have a $300+ brick?

And since this console is as powerful as this generation, shouldn't Nintendo keep playing catchup? Sony and Microsoft are currently working on more powerful consoles, which again, leaves Nintendo a step behind in terms of hardware.
So far that's happened to one person named Ben Fritz, and he was apparently clueless enough to unplug a console mid update so I'd take what he says with a grain of salt. My guess is the odds of this happening to the average non-retard user with a decent electrical connection is low enough that Nintendo isn't very concerned.

And I believe the reason Microsoft and Sony are taking so long to release the next console is that they've realized, like Nintendo did 6 years ago, that simply upgrading hardware is a dead end. It's the gimmicky new stuff like motion controls and whatever Nintendo's doing now that's making them trail behind. I don't think anyone's buying WiiU for it's processor.

The WiiU is not a next generation console it only has at its biggest 32gb hard drive and graphically its still shit even next to the Xbox what a joke Nintendo you have not led the new race you are still catching up.
... Gen's aren't measured by Graphical Prowess... Gen's are measured by Time... So the WiiU is Next Gen... *Cough* *Cough*

What's this nonsense about "New Race"? Are you trying to evoke Godwins Law or something?

Nintendo: A company which spends its time thinking up new ways to be "innovative" (i.e. Make up convoluted new ways to control games) and proceeds to re-hash the same games over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and... you get the point.

Somehow I don't think SONY or Microsoft really have anything to worry about.
While I agree Microsoft doesn't have to worry, Sony Probably should [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/115771-Sonys-Credit-Rating-Drops]...
As in the track event the, (new race to the top of gaming).

Looking back at this I really don't know if I should laugh or cry at this statement...

Arrogance is never good. Sony and MS learned this the hard way.
Nintendo, the oldest in this competition should be the wisest. But it turns out that they never learn
Shame... Next time, maybe
