The Switch is finally dumping proprietary charging cables, meaning those portable batteries everyone bought for Pokemon Go or their smartphones can extend the battery life of the screen, and the Switch is finally going region free. So those folks who get their underwear in a twist about localizations can just import.
This is the thing that made my ears perk up the most.
New xenoblade (comically oversized animu eyes aside), early splatoon and new zelda are all well and good, but the fact that we can actually use those portable battery type things that we use for our phones already to extend the lifespan of the portable mode is a godsend.
I was actually thinking about this when they announced the switch and I was thinking "I hope we can plug some kind of battery into it to keep it charged while on the go", and lo and behold, it's done in the best way possible. No proprietary BS cable, just "Hey, it charges via a USB type thingy".
This, combined with the small handful of interesting stuff coming out for it has my interest piqued. Assuming I finish University this year and land a job in a reasonable time frame, I might just pick this up after skipping the WiiU.
So far the only thing that makes me wrinkle my brow is the paid online. If they had the entire Virtual Console open for people who subscribe or something, then yeah, that'd be neat, but if it's just to play games online, I might probably pass on that.
