Apparently Nintendo won't release the Wii 2 until the original Wii sells 10 million more units in the US...like that'll happen. (Tried to find the article in the news section, but couldn't.)
So basically, Nintendo is saying, "BUY MORE WIIS SO THAT WE CAN RELEASE A NEW SYSTEM AND MAKE THE OLD ONE WORTHLESS!"
I realize that's needlessly dramatic (The games already on the Wii won't vanish just because a 'sequel' console is released), but it's still kind of true. When was the last time a developer made a game for the PS2 or Xbox? Do any PS2 or Xbox games still have multiplayer servers up? The last I've heard of it would be with Resident Evil: Outbreak, and that game's servers went dark a long, LONG time ago.
So...yeah. Am I missing something here, or is the 'We want 10 million more sales before releasing the next big thing' just a bad move business-wise? I can't imagine that holding your own system hostage would pay out in either the short or long run.
