This is getting ridiculous...

Yes, it's no surprise that Ninten-DO-IT-ALL-OVER-AGAIN-FOR-THE-NEXT-BAJILLION-YEARS is, yet again, cashing in on their core franchises, but goodness gracious. How can you people not be tired of this crap?!

The "NEW" (haw, they actually had the nerve to put the word "NEW" in the title) Super Mario Bros. Wii, for instance, is probably one of THE biggest examples of their laziness.

1. It's basically a Wii-ed up version of the DS version.

2. There's literally next to NO new real additions. Unless you count being able to play with Yoshi for a few levels and a couple power-ups(One of which is completely useless due to another power-up).

3. The single actual new idea they decided to implement, the multiplayer, has no online, and only allows 2 of the total 4 players to play as an interesting character(Sorry, but there's just no excuse when they have so many other awesome charcters that could of been used in place of at least 1 of the Toads- Like Daisy, Peach, Wario, Waluigi, Birdo (maybe), and so on)

4. It can be beat in far less than a day. By yourself even.

The list goes on.

And I'm sure that Super Mario Galaxy 2 will do no better. It's even got a lame and boring and generic number 2 on it! I don't recall Nintendo EVER taking their core Mario series so lightly.

Over and over and over and over and over again, you all throw your money at these people just for flashing a few of your childhood favorites for a bit. That can be said for pretty much all of Nintendo's top sellers though. And really, I can't blame them.

Whenever Nintendo tries to actually do something different, everyone throws a giant hissy-fit, and cries, and screams, and whines, and complains.

Super Mario Sunshine was not that bad. Yes the cinematics and voice acting awful, and the camera was less than stellar, but still! The game was so bright and colorful and fresh and fun. The environments and characters and levels were all so fresh and lovable, that you couldn't help but look past it's flaws and just have fun with the whole thing.

The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker is an even better example. It was the ONLY Zelda game beyond the awesome and ground breaking(if terribly overrated)Ocarina of Time to actually do something really new with the franchise. The first one to really move things forward. The charcters, the art style, the story, all of it was actually advancing the concept. No, it wasn't perfect. And yes, sailing around did get boring. But at least it actually gave the impression that you were on this giant and epic adventure.

But of course, these 2 games were mostly hated. The gamecube in general caused quite a fuss, despite it being the only console of its generation to really be all that enjoyable (though the PS2 did have some cool stuff, like the first Sly Cooper and Ratchet and Clank, plus some great later games).

And then comes The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess - a lame rehash of Ocarina of Time - and people love it! Super Mario Galaxy comes along, and though it was somewhat well recieved, there's still a bit more hate for it than their should of been.

And also considering the fact that the Wii has made it to the top by exploiting the niavety of newcomers to the game industry (You know, the Wii Fitness stuff and the terribly made third-party stuff), well, it's really no surprise.

It's weird too, because I like Nintendo for being the only company willing to really try anything different, or fill it's games with colors other than Gunmetal Gray and Dirty Dirt Dirt Brown. And also for being big enough to try something new with their console, like the whole motion sensing thing. And to also focus on things other than graphics with their games.

But ah well, as with any buisiness, they exist to create and distribute value, and to be paid for it, and use that money to create and distribute more value, and continue the cycle. So hey, if they can still get the money without having to do the work to create something truly valuable, then who can blame them?

It's not as if Sony and Microsoft, what with their giant manly-man-gotta-fill-it-all-with-bloom-and-guns-and-focus-more-on-online-rather-than-the-game-itself mind set on games, have been giving them much competition in that area. And a lack of competition is not good, for just about ANY business. Yeah, Sony and Microsoft are starting to try, but really, they've just been trying to copy what Nintendo has done, and trying to one-up them. And considering the fact that Nintendo has already made a HUGE dent in that particular area, it's going to be kind of hard. Like, really hard.

/END RANT

But what are YOUR thoughts on the whole thing?

2. There's literally next to NO new real additions. Unless you count being able to play with Yoshi for a few levels and a couple power-ups(One of which is completely useless due to another power-up). So the inclusion of new levels, new motion-based mechanics, and multiplayer aren't large enough changes?

3. The single actual new idea they decided to implement, the multiplayer, has no online, and only allows 2 of the total 4 players to play as an interesting character(Sorry, but there's just no excuse when they have so many other awesome charcters that could of been used in place of at least 1 of the Toads- Like Daisy, Peach, Wario, Waluigi, Birdo (maybe), and so on)
As I said in my NSMB:Wii Review (which you should all totally read), the lack of online isn't really much of a problem unless you can't get your real friends in the same room. If the multiplayer of that game becomes impersonal, then you've lost all joy to be had with playing the multiplayer games.

4. It can be beat in far less than a day. By yourself even. Theoretically, it can be beaten in a single day, granting that you're going through all the secret exits, hitting all the cannons, and pretty much avoiding any and all collectibles. Completion, on the other hand, is another matter entirely.

The list goes on.

And I'm sure that Super Mario Galaxy 2 will do no better. It's even got a lame and boring and generic number 2 on it! I don't recall Nintendo EVER taking their core Mario series so lightly.Since neither of us have any legitimate evidence to go either way, I'll allow you to have this opinion. You'll excuse me if I don't share it.

Over and over and over and over and over again, you all throw your money at these people just for flashing a few of your childhood favorites for a bit. That can be said for pretty much all of Nintendo's top sellers though. And really, I can't blame them. So if I buy Nintendo games, I'm helping Nintendo 'sell out'? Despite what you may be telling yourself, these games are different. They each have something that seperates it from the game before.

I actually agree with a lot of what you said in these paragraphs. I've broached the topic of the Unpleasable Fanbase of Nintendo as well. It does irk me when people cry for change, and when change happens, they cry some more.

And then comes The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess - a lame rehash of Ocarina of Time - and people love it!Because there's no way that the game could actually be good, right? Super Mario Galaxy comes along, and though it was somewhat well recieved, there's still a bit more hate for it than their should of been.I haven't seen that anywhere.

And also considering the fact that the Wii has made it to the top by exploiting the niavety of newcomers to the game industry (You know, the Wii Fitness stuff and the terribly made third-party stuff), well, it's really no surprise.Just because you don't like the product, don't assume it sells well because the consumer is an idiot.

It's weird too, because I like Nintendo for being the only company willing to really try anything different, Weren't you just complaining about Nintendo's approach with Wii Fit and all that? or fill it's games with colors other than Gunmetal Gray and Dirty Dirt Dirt Brown. And also for being big enough to try something new with their console, like the whole motion sensing thing. And to also focus on things other than graphics with their games.

Who gives a shit, the games are fun, and until they stop being fun I'll continue to not care. The Wii is marketed to young children and their parents, not really much else in between. They are succeeding at what they are doing so I don't really think they're gonna switch it up anytime soon.

Just go buy a PS3 or 360.

Don't think of it as abusing a franchise, think of it as owning a diamond mine. You aren't going to start looking elsewhere after you dig up three diamonds are you?

Some... cool... stuff.

That is perhaps one of the understatements of the decade.

Also, the Wii is stagnating, it's had about 2 'big' (and I use that word lightly) releases this year. Wii Fit+ and NSMBW. Neither of which have made much of a splash. Kudos to them for TRYING something new, but in the end, it's just an expensive gimmick.

Numerous levels from NSMBWii are incredibly creative and fun.
As for the "New" on the title, what's wrong with it? It's basically a NEW Super Mario Bros. game. It's on the Wii. The title makes some sense.

More like millenia. Jesus got nothing on my beloved PS2.

Did Jesus have Shadow of the Colossus? Did Jesus have God of war 1-2? Did Jesus have a ps-symbol you could turn? I think not!

people buy, so they make. Until this stops enjoy Mario one through one hundred million. Which will all have only minute differences to the earlier title so they can make more.

Oh the Turny Symbol. What an idea!

Not to mention Jack and Daxter, Kingdom Hearts, MGS2, MGS3, ICO, San Andreas, Vice City, Devil May Cry, Rayman Revolution, etc etc etc.

Did Jesus have a platinum edition colored in silver?

If we continue I think we're going to make religion obsolete. Let's just pray to the PS2.

Hmm. Channeling a bit too much Yahtzee, and a bit too much generic run-of-the-mill nonsense swill, but you do pick up a few points. I'm pretty sure most of us know the great titles of the 'cube, most of which were exclusives. What, 20 games? Maybe a few more, maybe a few less? How many can you give to the opposers under the same conditions? Not nearly as many, I'll tell you that. But hating on TP and NSMBW just because they're similar to other games isn't call to toss them out completely--both are excellent in their own call, and have their own new innovations. Does Nintendo reuse? Absolutely. Does it get them everything they ever wanted? Without doubt. Do they give us exactly what we want? You're still playing them, aren't you?

You know, I sort of like the idea of a platinum edition silver Jesus.
Did Jesus play DVDs? Could you alter his system configuration? Was he Multi-Tap compatible?

Because they are fun. When it stops being fun, I will stop buying their games. And, no, I was not a big fan of Super Mario Sunshine, but not because it was different. It was because the game had terrible controls in my opinion. And I am not a big fan of Zelda games, my game was always Metroid, which has yet to really disappoint.

well where to begin, alot of the things you say are true some sounds like fanboy rage i personally loved super mario sunshine and it was my favorite mario game,
twilight princess, was amazing and windwaker, and super mario galaxy, yes nintendo is just a business trying to make money so are the other companys but, to say they are not trying is astonishingly incorrect, yes the game is short and yes there could have been better characters but SMG2,is going to be amazing and you are right about them rehashing, but if you were them would you stop making mario games/zelda games/pokemon/metroid/?it works so why stop, as a business they are doing their job and succeding, so there ive said my piece.
