I think the DS has been doing fine with the DS. I don't like how they just throw away good titles to advertise cheap crap, but I will be fair and say it has it's gems.

And you know, it's doing impressive in sales, even though the PSP has been the highest sold Non Nintendo portable as of yet.

You really have to wonder how the future will turn out with this.

Until someone defines "core" gamers, specifically in relation to Nintendo, all of you are just pointlessly whining.

Because from where I'm standing, Nintendo has still done plenty to give people who liked Nintendo in the past something to like now. Motion control isn't a valid complaint - most games give the option to play another way (Classic or Gamecube controller).

Neither is the graphics complaint, as Nintendo has never been about outdoing its enemies with pure technology either. Hell, some last-gen Gamecube games are more visually pleasing and better looking then the best graphics that the 360, PC and PS3 can put out.

"Oh but they don't innov-" *smack*

Thats a bull#$%^& excuse too. Nintendo does plenty of different and innovative stuff (they have Shiggy, after all). Innovation doesn't mean "good" either. There is plenty of "new" and innovative stuff on the 360, PC and PS3 that sucks. Nintendo is wise. They have something they know that works and that people enjoy. They change it to try and enhance that experience, not re-define or comepletely change it. Obviously, they're trying something new and dangerous with games like Metroid: Other M, but then again we haven't actually played Other M yet, so we don't know how different from Metroid or MP it will be.

The original post perplexes me. I've played more gc games on my wii than on the cube, and while it wasn't made specifically for the 'cube games, that it actually has backwards compatability is astounding for the current gen. It really sounds like you're trying to say BC is a bad quality, where it's an option that allows them to discontinue a previous system for one that allows both old and new games. So, unless Nintendo's Third Pillar is actually following through on most of their promises, what exactly are you trying to say?

So you're upset because Nintendo advanced their handheld tech while still letting you play GBA games on it?

That's silly.

P.S. If Nintendo focused on making a console based on the 360 and PS3's power, they would still be behind because they spent all their time on that while meanwhile Microsoft and Sony were working on the next-gen of consoles, with even better "core gamer" support than the 360 and PS3. Plan ahead, OP, plan ahead.

They would be cheaper though, not as good, but cheaper. The PS3 is being coaxed into lowering prices by Activisions threats, the xbox is better but still fairly expensive if we don't include the arcade version in this.

Here?s the idea, for a new try at the ?third pillar? idea, a Nintendo console based on high definition graphics and powerful processors. They can continue with handhelds and motion control without having to worry about falling behind.
that's the problem. what exactly would you like to see with better graphics? a new super mario? a new super smash brothers? a new zelda? a sequel to any game made previous by nintendo? there really isn't anything worthwhile to pick up for nintendo, even if it did have a powerful engine. even more so, the bullshit that nintendo forces on developers to become a licensee is absolutely horrific. and you wonder why there are so few worthwhile 3rd party games for the god damn wii.

New metroid games give me a third pillar, I'll tell you that right now.
So what are the other two pillars?

And I don't really think that statement holds any water today, seeing as how it was made before the DS was even released and sales of the GameBoy Advance were still riding high.
