In the UK schools don't really have newspapers, which all things considered, is probably a good thing, if this is what happens in the schools of other countries.
I like the way the first one says "Against the morals of the vast majority of the population of the U.S.", I'd love to see their source. I also find it very amusing that they talk about people having sex without considering the consequences, while promoting the idea that contraception shouldn't be handed out.
They complain about too much birth control, while saying that teenage pregnancies are a problem. Fantastic logic, I suppose they think if people didn't have condoms, then sex would only happen in marriage? History kind of shows that's not going to happen.
That's not to say that I disagree that teen pregnancy and abortions are not far too high in most countries, but the idea that "waiting until marriage and no contraception" is the solution, is just ridiculous.
As for the gun control one. Let's say that you have an armed guard. If a person wants to shoot up a school, then surely they could hide among the thousands of other students until they have a clear shot on the person who is supposed to stop them? Unless the proposal is to have entire squads of them patrolling at all times, it's a ridiculous idea to assume they'd help. They'd just be the first person targeted. It's not like the person who thinks massacring a bunch of innocent children is going to think that killing a security guard is too much.

I have always felt the idea that life doesn't begin at conception is a little off base. Biologically, basically every definition we use to define what constitutes life is met at conception. It more comes down to when you view this fetus as equal to the life of a fully formed human and whether or not you value that more than a persons right to choose. I am pro-choice but I still recognize that it isn't this black and white issue that the extremes in this issue seem to try to push it.

I wrote one article for my schools online paper as part of my journalism class. I wanted to write something weird, out there, and memorable since it was my Senior Year. It was kind of a badly written article. I asserted facts I thought may be true but didn't really know were true (what is the word for that?) and incorporated pictures gags that couldn't make it into the final cut because of copyright fears. But other than those two things I'm rather fond of it.
The subject was about ponies.

We have a school newspaper but it only cones out once a year and is to 90% about school related stuff and pretty decent, so no complaints here. But the articles from the pictures? Holy Jesus... I like how they repeatedly quote statistics and "general public opinions" but fail to give any sources or citations.

When I was in middle school, I was approached to write an editorial for the paper. I wrote said piece stating why the Iraq War was a bad idea (this was when it was literally just starting). Thus began the only spat of bullying I had to endure. I, being none too thrilled at being called a dumb liberal *****, never contributed again.
My high school newspaper was excessively non-controversial - I cannot remember a thing about it, even though I remember reading it at my lunch table on multiple occasions. It is something that has, quite literally, made almost no impression on me.

The only thing that ever really pissed me off was a article about nuclear energy that seemed to come more from watching cartoons than any real understanding of nuclear reactors. I always wish they published letters to the editor. Coming out with one defending the morality of pre-marital sex would be fun.
