I thought it could be freaky as all hell when it wanted to, but I was only playing on medium at the time and most of the guys got dropped before they really got close enough to do damage- though it was a pretty close thing, sometimes. freakiest bit was in the engine level, when one of the upright ones climbs into a vent in front of you... and doesn't reappear afterwards. I was always waiting for it to come screaming out, but it never did.
I'm pissed it's not showing up on PC, steam's about the only way I can get games. Curse Visceral, curse them! I wanted to find out what happens, and now I'll have to spend all my time avoiding spoilers just in case a PC version is eventually released!
After I got that shockwave-shotgun, the scare factor did go down significantly- no more "Oh God I gotta make this shot count" and the introduction of "step into my forward 90 degree arc and feel my fury!"

Oh God, I remember that part. Shot him out of reflex, felt kinda bad about it afterward.Cowabungaa said:It wasn't even that gory, and there weren't even that many startle moments. Go figure. I got startled once when a still alive miner surprised me in a storing cabinet. That was all. I can see that Dead Space tries to be genuinely scary with it's lighting and sound effects, but it never got through to me.
