Basically the servers for Destiny won't be going up until the day of launch, which seems a little risky to me. As far as I can tell that means any problems the servers have will be effecting day 1 gamers, ie the ones who preordered. And if SimCity taught us anything, it would be to do preciecly not that.

But to my larger question: does it smell rotten to anyone no review will be coming out before launch day?Seems very convenient if the game turns out to be shit, that tons of people will buy it without knowledge. Now one could make the argument you should never buy a game without reading a review or two, so buyer beware. I dunno. I just can't shake the feeling that Bungie wants to sell thousands of copies before any reviews can actually get out.

Do I think they planned it that way? Probably not. But I do think they're not going out of there way to get reviews before launch.

It is usually what happens when publishers know that critics will be harsh on their game but maybe it is just the servers....

I think you should read the update that the Polygon article you linked has. Seems that they are getting their review copies, but the servers won't be online until Monday, and there are no video restrictions so Polygon said they'll be streaming the game. Of course the game is officially released on the 9th, so we'll see how this goes.

I'd have a problem with it if not for the fact that the game had an open beta, so the final product probably won't deviate very much from what people already played. No one is really going into this thing blind so the lack of reviews isn't as big a problem as it otherwise might be.

Also , it's kind of a social game to an extent, reviews when there are no one else to play with could protentially have a negative effect on the review.

Imagine having to review an mmo, before there is anyone on the servers. It's understandable. However i said wAit for the actual reviews to come out before buying the game. Worst case, there should still be some videos from people who played the beta.

Personally i played the ps4 open beta and really liked the game, so i'll be getting it day one, because i already saw for myself a preview of it.
