"No Man?s Sky is in one man?s hands, thanks to leaked copy
Gameplay video leaked, then taken down, but not before Ars confirmed its legitimacy."

I won't post any of the article here, in case some people don't want to risk spoilers, but it's only 26 minutes of gameplay referenced in any case. Most people seem to be reacting pretty favorably though, so what do you think?

So worth noting that the guy with the copy is sharing additional details about his experience on Reddit, though he has decided not to post any additional videos. I believe that the subreddit has a mega thread up for spoiler information gleaned from his impressions , but anyone wanting to avoid such things should probably consider the entire site risky.

Spoilers?

What's possible to spoil in this game? I was under the impression that there wasn't much of a story, and the planets are all procedurally generated, and you'll be spawned at a different place in the galaxy from everyone else so...what's there to spoil that wasn't already in the trailers?

There's events, factions, alien races, all that kinda shit people rather not see somewhere else first. I mean exploring is the heart of the game, people want to see stuff first.

Been taking a peek, there isn't really anything that it looked to spoil other than gameplay and the odd rather cute creature. Looks like there is a fair bit to do, discover and learn also. I'd say it appears pleasantly surprising and quite chill, much more appealing than previously imagined.

That is surprising. I was expecting a stellar letdown, that looks genuinely promising. I might have to eat some serious crow.

Hmm all i heard form that reddit is that the game could be finished with an exploit in 12 hours, that the graphics didnt seem as nice as the vids we'd seen and that the combat was bad and that basically, this was gonna be a flop according to them.

Personally though i consider this game critics proof for me, meaning i'm still gonna try it regardless of the score it gets.

I get off on space ships...

What!

I've been holding my judgment till some reviews actually come out so this is a good sneak peek into whether I should get the game or not.

Honestly, I think the reaction from reddit is from three primary camps. People who thought it would suck still think it will suck. People who thought it would be good based on a realistic idea of what it was trying to be still think it will be good. And people who had the complete wrong impression of what the game was supposed to be in the first place are going "oh no, it sucks because it doesn't have all the features that the voices in my head said it would!"

Good developers stream beta versions gameplay before launch. Bad developers take down leaked videos. Guess which one this is?

Also according to TotalBisquit they are refusing to send anyone review copies.

Its the only place where the developers cannot abuse DMCA and illegally take down the gameplay videos i guess. Kudos to Pornhub for not bowing down to those bullies.

Oh, great. Because the game hadn't had enough problems with delays, legal challenges, death threats, and the like.

I don't know yet if NMS is going to be the some brilliant jewel of game design or one more case of reach exceeding grasp, but I am beginning to feel some serious pity for Hello Games. However the final product performs, the designers can't have deserved all of this.

He almost got eaten by an alien, bouncing pineapple.

...

Procedural content: great succes!

Not that it's perfect. It needs an FOV slider, some of those destruction graphics are a little iffy and you should be able to do more without having to dive into menus (sleekly designed as they may be). But it really seems to deliver on the exploration, already plenty of "Ohh what's this?" moments in that one video. So I'm still excited, definitely.

Credit to you for being absolutely correct.
