I just went back several pages and didn't find a topic on No More Heroes for the Wii, and must admit some surprise.

It's technically not the most intellectual or high-brow of titles, but it's a big refresher both in terms of Wii games and the industry as a whole. The premise is you play as Travis Touchdown, a complete Otaku and Mexican wrestling fan who wins a laser sword in an Internet Auction. For some reason he decides to go out and try to fight the 11th highest ranking Assassin, and upon defeating him is contacted by the United Assassin's Association. They take an interest in him and basically hire him to try and climb to number one, and that's where the game starts off.

While some of the storytelling could use some work, the gameplay is great. In fact, it's the most fun I've had on the Wii since Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition. It's certainly not the best designed, but it's great fun. Instead of trying to have the beam saber "follow" your motions, which hasn't worked out too well in the past, you do the classic button mashing with "follow the arrow" stick waggling to finish off your opponents. It is a simple system that provides enough to keep interesting over and over again.

The game allows you to wander the city of Santa Destroy and do some side quests, but ultimately this can only be fun for so long. It doesn't take long to save the money to enter the next ranked match, especially if you don't spend cash on extra clothing, extra beam sabers and training (slightly beneficial, but not really required), but sometimes there are missions that have small things that make them a ***** to pass, and therefore cause a lot of wasted time. That is, if you're like me and want to Gold rank a bunch of them.

The levels that focus on the other ranked Assassins are the best, though, and always throw in some new touches. I'm not going to say the combat system ends up becoming deep, but that's part of the gold of it. It's simple enough that you can do anything and still allow it to be fun.

If you have a Wii, I highly recommend this title.

Canada doesn't get No More Heroes until later this week. Quite sad really. =(

My bf just got it this week and we started playing it at my place. And I swear to God as soon as he beats that thing I am stealing it. It looks like insane amounts of fun.

I think I personally just want to run over pedestrians with my gigantic super ultra megabike of doom.

You can actually run the pedestrians over with your bike?
I do hope so. That would be absolutely amazing.

It's not really interactive in the streets, like GTA, so you can run over pedestrians with the bike, but 1) there aren't many pedestrians and 2) they don't really do anything except get hit by your bike, and then run away screaming. So don't expect a sandbox game-like environment like GTA. What you should expect though, is the best use of the wiimote/nunchuck in a game EVER, and the glorious apartment you get to live in for the game. This game kicks.

The apartment is certainly fun, but I honestly wish you could just pan around the room and examine all the Otaku gear he's got.

Yep I have the game myself, and I must say I am enjoying its unusualness and dialogue. Especially what Thunder Ryu has to say to you(play the game if you wanna know). And I must say that its boss fights are quite entertaining.

Another thought: I love the save screens. BF and I actually say "I'm gonna save my game" whenever we go to the bathroom now. (Because we are severe geeks.)

That's probably one of the "coolest" things I've ever heard, right next to Peter Griffin saying "I'm gonna take a wicked yes".

I love this game, sure I had complaints about the story at first but when I saw the similarities to Afro Samarai which I thought was great I dropped that issue. I really wish that the town was a little more lively but whatever the game is so badass that I forgive it. I love the outfits in the game, I usually thought that customizing clothes in games was a waste of time (cause the clothes usually suck) the game has awesome non brand named clothes. I never had so much fun dressing the main character in bright pink :)

I finished the game this weekend with the real ending and have to say I had fun. It was only about 12 hours long, but there was plenty in the game to make it worthwhile, including all the popular culture references for the geeks out there. I read somewhere on the web that the game is intentionally an empty non-interactive sand box world. That this is actually part of the satirical nature of the game. To be honest, I am glad they skipped some of those elements as Sandbox games are already becoming tiresome and overdone. The game starts easy and gets fairly challenging by the last 3 fights. It may also have the best boss battles I have had in a while.
