After watching the Anthony Weiner scandle and the Lebron/D Wade coughing debacle, something hit me: You really cannot fuck up in this world anymore because there are cameras everywhere and the internet is unforgiving.

Think about it: Congressman Weiner accidentally posted pictures of his weiner on Twitter and then, in a panic, lied and said his account was hacked. The thing is, that picture was on the internet and it had spread around all over the place: there was no way he could take it down now. Eventually, he had to admit his guilt. What he did was wrong to begin with, but he could have hidden it had he not made that one mistake.

For those of you who don't follow the NBA, the Miami Heat just lost the Finals in a bizzarely pitiful fashion to the Dallas Mavericks. Game 4 of this series saw Dirk Nowitzki playing his heart out and helping Dallas tie the series; all this despite the fact that he was very sick. People were calling it the greatest illness ridden performance since Michael Jordan's "Flu Game" in the 1997 Finals. Before Game 5, Lebron James and Dwayne Wade were followed around when they headed to the locker room to prepare for the game. They were caught on tape mocking Nowitzki's illness. The Mavs went on to smoke the Heat in Game 5. Now, the utter stupidity of mocking the guy after he had just beaten you is a topic that could take up a whole thread by itself, but that isn't the point. The point is that there were cameras following them around during the simple event of walking to the locker room. That's just silly.

But that underscores something rather interesting. Obviously there will be cameras and the like following politicians and athletes, but regular people have made these same kind of mistakes and paid for them in one way or another. You cannot fuck up in this world, or your secrets will be all over the place. Every cellphone has a camera and Twitter can be reached with the simple push of a button.

Are we getting to the point that we may not be able to make jokes away from watching eyes or have screts like Weiner's (not that we should to begin with) without it showing up on the web or elsewhere? Will we not be able to make mistakes anymore?

*Obligatory George Orwell statement*

It is a shame, but it can also be a good thing.
People'll learn not to screw up so bad so openly.
Either that or we'll distort human nature...

Hmm...

I just think that the 'celebrity gossip' is stupid in general. Let them be known for their profession, not their early morning swimming atire. As for 'normal people'. Yes, I think the lack of privacy is ridiculously stupid, as it stands I only made a facebook account because it was a convenient way to keep in touch with people from school after it finished that I'd otherwise never see again; I don't do those 'page liking, photo tagging' things that everyone else clutters up my wall with.

People like to laugh at other people's fails, I know I do.

The revolution in surveillance and the internet has made our access to fails infinitely more frequent, varied, and epic.

Be not afraid. herald the coming of Big Brother with joy, and many lulz shall be had by all!

We'll still be able to make mistakes and get away with it but those chances are going to be very slim in the future you just have to make sure that when you do make a mistake you do it away from people with cameras or cellphones.

Really? Really. Have I been ninja'd on this yet?

Wiener didn't accidentally take pictures of his dick. No one accidentally takes pictures of their genitalia. Jesus, that should be a T-shirt. No one should have to tell you this; it should be self-evident.

The NBA players weren't "caught" on camera mocking another player. They were walking toward the camera, looking directly into it. That wasn't a slip-up, it was the ego of American antiintellectual athleticism. James has been acting like a total dick for a while now. He acted like a man with little dick syndrome while his rival showed some major balls and panache, so Nowitzki came out quite justifiably looking like a hero, and James came out looking like...well, looking like a little dick. I'm not even a sports fan, but I love this story.

Fuck both of these guys. "You can't fuck up any more?" How about not sending pictures of your dick to women and wrecking your own family? How about not mocking your rival's illness just before a game, on the off chance that he may hand your ass to you? Do you really feel sorry for these two douche nozzles?

I never said I had sympathy for these people. I think Weiner's a prick and I've lost all respect for Lebron and Dwade. The point I was trying to make was that you cannot fuck up these days without it being everyone else's buisness. That's the kind of world we live in. I don't really think that someone's affair should be national news. I don't really think cameras should be constantly following people around. It's none of my business what Weiner did, no matter how disgusting the act was. It's none of my business what athletes do on the way to the locker room.

That's the big problem with society. There's a camera everywhere and things on the internet spread fast. So much attention was spent on Weiner's scandal; but was it really neccessary? There are more important things in the world to worry about.

I don't think it was an accident that Mr. Weiner posted pictures of his weiner. Man that is funny to say. But seriously, how could he accidently take pictures of his cock then accidently upload them to his computer, then accidently post them on twitter? He is a pervert, simple as that.

These people are famous. If you or I did/said something stupid like this, unless there was something that stood out about the affair, it wouldn't be national news. That is the problem, our obsession with celebrity, especially undeserved celebrity (for more, see cast of Jersey Shore). In both of these cases (though I do feel sorry for Mrs. Wien-for the wife involved), I think creating a national story and shaming the perpetrators for such shitty behavior is more than warranted. I say this with absolutely no sympathy for the stalker-er, I mean murderer-oopse, I meant paparazzi of the world, and I don't think anyone needed to know that President Clinton got a blowjob, but Lady Di and Clinton weren't putting their inner asshole on display for the whole world to see. Both LeBron and Wiener (snicker snicker) should have known better. I know teenagers, quite literally half their age, who would never do these sorts of things, because they possess what is commonly called common sense.

Scandals come with fame. It's good business for the news industry.

Since politics is a constant Machiavellian war, and the news industry is a war over information, political sex scandals are like creepers.

Pfft, you guys are acting like you've never had mostly-naked pictures of yourself spread though the internet.

So D-Wade and LeBron poked fun at Dirk being sick. Teams trash-talk each other all the time, it's a part of sports. I fail to see the big deal there.
