No New Elder Scrolls!

Something Awful does some amazing mock-reviews, and what's more some people take them seriously, and then they post the responses.

As far as a new Elder Scrolls game goes, I freely admit I am not pleased that there isn't one coming up soon since it has been a while, but I guess I understand why. The economy is tanked, and of course they have other projects to work on (someone mentioned Guild Wars 2).

I would imagine it taking a long time to develop a game to the standards of Elder Scrolls titles, so I'd rather them wait on announcing it until it's really almost ready, rather than going "OMG, we're almost done" and then annoying their entire player base with constant delays. Either that or if they are developing it with current "bleeding edge" technology then they have to wait a few years for the general userbase to catch up unless they want to wind up like "Crysis".

That said I'm also kind of hoping for a Fallout IV.

Bethesda should stay away from generes other than Sandbox RPGs because they do well at that, but everything else they do winds up being second rate at best, or a disaster at worst, even if they tag a successful franchise name on it.

The article seemed to be implying more that TESV was simply down the road quite a bit, rather than that it doesn't exist. Or that at least we shouldn't be expecting any news on their next big project for quite some time. Honestly, if it takes them a while to bridge the gap between the next game being like Oblivion, a game that I spent three or four months playing before I was bored of it, as opposed to Fallout 3, one that I spent about two weeks playing, I'm perfectly willing to wait.

There is going to be a new TES game, just not in the IMMEDIATE FUTURE.

They're not going to can one of their two biggest moneymakers. Besides, by making an announcement like this, there is less pressure on them to produce results. I'd rather hear nothing about a new TES game for a couple years, then have them pull back the curtain, display something awesome, and announce that they have a definite release date that is only a few months off.

Yes, we need to calm down people, TES5 will come out, just be grateful that they seem to be taking thier time with this one which could actually mean a bug-free game from Bethesda.

I havent played an elder scrolls game and since I played fallout 3 I think oblivion would be a bit wasted on me. So I was really lookin forwards to a TES 5 to win me over but It's fallout's fault

I love fallout 3

But to tell you the truth I want more of 3 and to forget 4. I don't want another one.

TES5 was announced last October, and Hines's point was to dispel the rumors about Oblivion DLC. ZeniMax Media would come into Bethsoft's office with a shotgun firing both barrels at anyone responsible for killing the golden goose.

Have you guys read the article? It's not flat-out saying that Elder Scrolls is gone, but that it is simply not in the publicity stage yet. It's probably much further down the road, and their super-secret announcement has yet to be revealed for a while. I'd hazard a guess and say that Elder Scrolls 5 is in some sort of pre-planning phase.

There will definitely be an Elder Scrolls V. This just means that Bethesda is working on something else right now. Whatever it is, I'm happy. Fallout 3 was awesome, so I'm ready for anything. I've never been the biggest fan of Elder Scrolls anyways. Morrowind was fine, but Oblivion annoyed me to the point where I wanted to play Morrowind instead.
