since when did we have to pay for online features anyway?
EA is the end of decent gaming i swear.
Dead space 2 and Bulletstorm both have an online pass. It is in the package if you buy it new. So you only pay if you buy it used.

No it is about making you EA customers instead of Gamestop's or a reasonable facimile. It is about making Gamestop's (or reasonable facimile) pay more for not buying it new and not being EA's customers.
Aka. making people pay EA more money, just like i said.

The problem here is that you are only talking about the "free" DLC that comes if you buy the game from EA. Thats not the only kind of DLC EA offers. They offer plenty of other DLC that even directly paying customers have to pay for (not that there is anything wrong with doing that except that i heavily despise "Day One" DLC that costs money). And even then, the goal is still the same: To make people pay us.

It is about getting money to the people who made the game the money instead of some parasitic corporation who is making money by offering low trade in credit and selling high and almost ripping off everyone involved except the guy who saves a few bucks.
Resales happens outside of Gamestop. In fact, Gamestop until recently didn't even exist in my country (and still doesn't exist in many countries and areas).

Correction EA is making you pay EA money. More involves you paid them something in the first place. And if you need to buy the code YOU DIDN'T!!!!

I'll repeat again: I never, in my original post, insinuated that i was only talking about the free DLC for paying customers. I was talking about DLC in general, including day-one DLC and DLC made later in the games lifecycle.

And even then, the free DLC is also made to make "more money". You see, the original game being bought in the first place also buys the free DLC (which therefore technically isn't free. Rather, it's just "part of the package", meaning that it's actually bought). The idea then is that EA is not restricting resale of the game, but resale of the DLC (aka. you can't buy the DLC unless you also sell your EA account).

Example: Person 1 buys the game from EA and therefore also buys the DLC (as a part of the package deal). Person 2 later buys the game from person 1, but since he can't buy the DLC, he has to buy that seperately.

End result is that the game has been bought from EA once, but that the DLC has been bought twice. Long story short: The DLC was created to make EA more money.

Well done. You have stated what the EA CEO said right from the start about project $10 and outlined every good business model which is OMG to make money. I know shocking right? So where is your beef exactly? You don't want companies to make money? You would rather they didn't profit to I dunno make more games in the future? You do know that if they don't make them then no one can resell them right?

lol i stand corrected. EA is the end of decent gaming.
i guess i wouldn't mind anyway because they always lean toward mediocre games that i don't think to buy in the first place.

and even though mass effect was good i only borrowed it because EA doesn't need more money before it decides to do something ridiculous and irresponsible with my hard earned cash, those bastards...
oh wait.

...and because after the initial game was leaked, to punish the people who actually obtained the legitimate copies we need to make the game pay off on its investment of time and money would be both evil and stupid...

Good on them. Using DLC to try and stop pirates is fine, but doing it to 'encourage' people to buy new rather than used is a tad shite.
Why did you bring Piracy into the picture? DLC isn't intended to stop piracy in any way (because pirates can get DLC anyway the same way they always do: pirate it).

DLC is about making paying customers pay more. Piracy has nothing to do with it.
Haha, having re-read what I said yesterday I had 'DRM' in my head not 'DLC'. Apologies, I only skim read it the first time.

Is it me, or are people misusing the term DLC all the freaking time? The Online Pass isn't "DLC", it's a coupon for a service. Content that is on the disk that still needs to be paid for isn't "DLC".

Great! Now if they would just drop the price of the PC version down to where it should be and I'd buy it.
Cost 300kr which is around $40 so Its quite cheap imo..

I've never understood the rabid opposition apparent in so many people to companies making money. So what if they do? That's why they're in business. I still see no problem at all with Online Pass programs, barring cases like THQ's inexcusable botching of the UFC Undisputed launch.

Admission of bias, however: I'm exclusively a PC gamer and nobody around here deals used PC games anymore anyway, so it's not as though the issue really impacts me one way or the other.

it expects that Crysis 2 will be the first dance with a Crytek game for most console gamers and doesn't want anything to keep them from any part of the experience.
Um, wasn't Far Cry on Xbox? And wasn't there quite a few spin-offs that landed on the console, too?
