Best Current Cartoon Network Cartoon

Not counting Adult Swim, Cartoon Network has been pumping out winners recently. Sadly, much like Highlander there can only be one.

I glad to see Adventue Time won.

No offence to any Regular Shows fans out there but I just find that shows to be repeatitive at times but I can't blame it too much since it is a trope (a normal situation get screw up badly because of a simple mistake which Rigby is mostly the cause of it).

Also Mordica and Rigby are just plain slackers which I think it's bad role models for any kids that watched it and I can't relate to them (I'm a hard worker especially when I was unemployed for years and honestly they would of been sacked ages ago) but yet again I haven't reach that point in my career.

Granted I do sometime liked that the show is somewhat a love letter to the 80's/ 90's.

The best thing in my mid is that if you watch 2 in the am pm Regular Show make more sense, it is an acid trip.

Regular Show is explicitly written for adults, hence the "90s sitcom premise gets invaded by C'thulu" template.

I think that it would have been a much more interesting argument if both of them had seen a large amount of the other's show.

I thought the exact same thing about Adventure Time as Chris did, but then I watched 4 seasons in a row, and I'm evangelizing it to other people like crazy.

Also, I haven't seen enough of The Regular Show to agree with anything that Chris is saying, but I'll automatically agree with Dan because those are my first impressions. If I were really to binge-watch The Regular Show, I would no doubt think much more highly of it.

My point is, first impressions are useless nowadays when it comes to TV shows. Everything isn't quite as "cut and dry" where you can watch one episode and know exactly what a show is trying to be or say.

An argument between people who are completely unaware of the thing they are arguing against just ends up being like a 5-minute advertisement for the things they're talking about.

Yeah, I like both shows, but Adventure Time wins out in the end. It's just more fun, while still being able to make me tear up on some episodes.

Regular Show is alright, but like Dan said, everything seems like it just goes back to the status quo at the end of each episode. They've had some movement with the characters recently and even brought in a new one, while also bringing an old one back, but Adventure Time has done that too. Plus, they've done it more often.
Also, I just don't like how they sometimes fluctuate how dumb/lazy Mordo and Rigs get. I love the Mississippi Queen episode.

But they really expect me to just believe out of the blue two 23 year old men can't change a light bulb? xD
I know, I know. That's the joke and it's mostly just there so we can lead into the fun night, but come on! They could have come up with something else at least.

As for my pick of the recent shows?

I'd say Steven Universe is shaping up to be pretty good. :)
And Clarence kind of reminds me of a less cartoony ED, EDD, and EDDY, with a somewhat younger cast.

Hopefully we get more of all of these shows though. :)

[sub]P.S. ATHF, indeed WAS a good show.
xD Now?

I just never enjoyed these weird comedy shows. I didn't enjoy it back during Ren & Stimpy, I didn't like Rocko's Modern Life, and almost everything on old Nickelodeon freaked me out as a kid. I can appreciate the strange amusement that folks get out of shows like Adventure Time, but I was never into that scene. Closest I ever got was a few episodes in Aqua Teen or Sea Lab which I found amusing.

Case in point, I was so opposed to stuff like that, I almost never watched Avatar: The Last Airbender. Finally, a friend sat me down to watch it, and I was hooked. Can't say the same of Korra, but Avatar was great. As for these off-beat comedy shows, I guess the only one I TRULY enjoyed was Archer, but that's far more normal than any of the shows that would be in this Nick/CN discussion.

One thing that AT does better than RS, imo, is playing with dark themes in a very light-hearted background, without it feeling jarring. It's a crucial ability if you look to mix drama into your comedy. I think Futurama did it in the best possible way, but AT also gets it.

I'm more into Adventure Time than Regular Show. It's a multi-layered series hiding behind child-like whimsy while slowly maturing in tone without losing its heart. Not just the major revelations like Ice King's past but the little things a viewer may or may not have picked up on. A lot of folks getting into this show might have a hard time with it, but I suggest you watch it with a fan of the show and give it a chance.

I appreciate what Mission Hill was trying to do, but I still think that show was a misfire. This is especially true when you compare it to something else played often during early AS - Home Movies.

I still say the amazing word of gumball beats both of these shows, The Surreal life setting that RS gives along with the goofy hijinks of AT make it the best of both worlds.
But i like Rs better mainly because even though adventure has those dark moments there's not enough of them. Regular show has a consistent theme and vibe of everyday life going haywire, while adventure time will have those serious moments once then the next 3-4 eps are crazy silly stuff even though more pppl want the dark serious stuff more.

Feel free to go straight to hell. Home Movies is good. I had a manager that was Coach McGirk.

I'd say Steven Universe surpassed Regular Show some time ago, as the latter's gotten really repetitive.

Yes, Aqua Teen Hunger Force!

Also, from the creators of Adventure Time: Bravest Warriors! You can watch it with your kids, Dan! It's on the youtubes!

I love both but i'll admit i'm not up to date with Regular Show like I am with Adventure Time.

I didn't use to think much of Regular show, thought it was just 90's referential humor, until I saw the Cloudy Jane ep. THAT is the sort of depth I wanna see from cartoons. I also love the Bowie references.

Sorry, I mean Gary.

I acknowledge that Adventure Time is a very well put together show; it's that rare instance of a show where the more you see it, the more you start to notice that there's a clear path that the creators were setting up for the show and are slowly unraveling it. However, there's something about it that's a bit alienating to me on an aesthetic level. Maybe it's the art style or the character designs; I can't really put my finger on it but it's a bit of a put-off.

Chris' take on Regular Show is probably the best I've heard. There's something about how the show takes very real-life situations, especially for young adults, and anxieties and puts it's own weird spin on it that I've always found enjoyable. It's pretty interesting how despite whatever crazy thing the show throws at you, in the end, the show treats it like it's just all part of a, for a lack of a better word, regular life. It's also a show that I didn't expect to surprise me with some of the arcs the characters get to go through, such as Mordecai learning to let go of Margharet.

Still, I think my favorite show on CN right now has to be Steven Universe. It's just getting started, but it's already building up a lot of steam. Over the last few years, I've seen cartoons that are trying to push for a more optimistic look on life, featuring characters that just want to be happy and bring people together. The character of Steven is a very good example of this. He's defined by his drive to be friendly and his kindness, as his prime role in the series so far is to teach The Crystal Gems to basically be a little more human. He does screw up a lot, but it's all part of him growing up. Plus, it should go without saying, but I like that at no point (so far) his weight is either a problem or a source of cheap laughs at his expense. All in all, I hope he can be seen as a good role model for young boys, much like Finn from AT.

It's also worth pointing out that the majority of the supporting cast of this show is female, and all of them are distinct in personality, interactions with Steven, and even physique. I really dig that.

So yeah, if you haven't seen Steven Universe, fix that.
