It's never just one thing that causes a format to win. In the case of Blu-ray the main reasons were that Blu-ray had 50GB of storage space and HD-DVD 30GB, plus the fact that Sony has half of Hollywood in it's pocket. HD-DVD died when Disney signed a contract with Sony and Blockbuster and Nextflix decided not to carry HD-DVD.
