Any WW2 movie where the Americans won it all by themselves, the British, French and Russians were just there to provide funny accents, if they were even there at all, and every single German recruit was a cross between Hannibal Lecter and Darth Vader.

The one that particularly pissed me off was the one that depicted the American's as having found and decoded the Enigma all by themselves (I can't remember its name). No America, no you did not.

Yes, I know, dramatic license and all that, but considering how ignorant so many people are to current events and history, it really does concern me the amount of people who get there information as to what happened in times like these from entertainment. So out there there must be many, many people who genuinely believe that that was how things really went down, which I consider to be rather disrespectful. While I wouldn't want to be too dictatorial about it, I really think Hollywood should have a responsibility to pay at least some attention to historical accuracy.

I will tell you what consistently annoys me is when people making killer shark or killer prehistoric monster or killer whatever else do absolutely NO research on them at all. Like none.
For instance in Deep Blue Sea, there is a scene where someone lowers what the characters claim to be a tiger shark except that it looks nothing like a bloody tiger shark.
Tiger sharks have square heads and they are grey, that thing was a pointy headed great white that had been painted yellow and given stripes. You seriously couldn't even google image search the bloody things?
Plus then there are the false information given in movies like this. For instance as much as I loved The Grey, it's very problematic that the behavior of the grey wolves depicted in this movie is so innaccurate to their actual behavior in the real world. When they had only just escaped extinction because of people killing them for their undeserved fierce reptutation it's not great that a movie then brings it right back again.
To be fair the filmmakers did put proper information about the grey wolf on the official website so that's a point to them.
But still I see this happen so much its insulting, movie makers make up facts about animals. Like in that crappy movie Primeval (about Gustave the killer crocodile), ignoring the fact that they were taking a real life horror and making it into cheap popcorn entertainment for Western Audiences, they again, have no idea how crocodiles actually are. They aren't that fast moving and they don't need to eat very much.

It annoys me because a lot of animals have a bad enough reputation as it is, without movies getting facts wrong and making it worse. The movie Jaws almost caused the extinction of the Great White Shark and it worries me what other movies might do the same later on.

This kind of a thing, so much. Although, in general, the more 'realistic' it tries to be, and fails, the worse it is. I actually enjoy stupid horror movies where the animal behaviour is so ridiculous, it's just silly.

Same goes for historical accuracy.

One of my pet peeves is how Hollywood apparently doesn't understand what 'evolution' means. Although, there are a lot of things fiction gets wrong to make the plot more interesting, and I might just mainly pick up on stuff I personally know about.

But it's no wonder we get these evolution/creationism 'debates', when it seems most people get their idea of what biologists mean with 'evolutionary theory' from movies/tv series where it's basically magic.

This does not stop them from creating their own games, hackers, computer experts, hardware, etc.

That is the surface. Which is very very very very very far (read: quite a few earth diameters) from where the actual fusion occurs. Not to mention the corona is over a million degrees in some areas. Now if you placed a million degree pin-head anywhere in a city block for a few minutes, you would have "technical problems", if you consider the fact that there is no longer a city block to be a... "technical problem". Also, a region that is sustaining fusion for more than a minute with enough Hydrogen to create a nice big flaming ball, fitted with city-bending magnetic field and all, is going to be a LOT hotter than 6000 degrees Kelvin.

In the last fight scene, the mini-sun is actively fusing material for over 6 minutes flat, within that time it would have released enough heat to fry Manhattan. More than once. And characters are frequently getting within a few meters of it.

I watched Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen last night and I was in pain from all the inaccuracies.

GIANT TALKING, TRANSFORMING ALIEN ROBOTS COMING DOWN TO EARTH IS A MORE REALISTIC SCENARIO THAN SOME OF THE HUMAN INTERACTIONS THAT HAPPEN IN THE MOVIE. I know that an usual "general consensus" is that the majority of humans are "dumb", but goddamn, the stuff in the movie was just asinine.

I watched three of the Halloween movies least ummm Halloween (I think it was those movies, Michel mires was the bad guy), it was the first, fifth and sixth I think, by the time the time he's pulled the same shit six times shouldn't someone realise that he's probably not dead. one of them ended with him being electrocuted and burnt (after being kicked out of a first floor window) and they thought he was dead, fair enough assumption, but this was Michel Miers, why didn't the protagonists just smash his head in with a fucking sledgehammer, until its been ground into a fine past and then just burn whatever left. Problem solved.

Seeing as I'm not an expert in history, science or IT, I don't really notice when they mess up in that regard, But I do really hate it when things don't adhere to their own logic or any kind of realism, The show Bones for example, I like the show but seriously, how the hell can Angela do all that stuff with that computer, instant 3D models from photographs is as far as I know impossible, and why is she their in the first place, she isn't even a scientist she just acts really condescending towards people who are vastly more intelligent then her.

For me, it depends on the movie. Remember that King Arthur movie that was advertising historical accuracy? That pissed me off hugely, because it was both bad and inaccurate. Braveheart, your example, bugged me somewhat less, but the whole "it's history!" angle pisses me off a tad.

On a similar note, I can suspend disbelief with the best of them, but when someone starts talking about realism in CSI, I want to explode. I am not a comprehensive database of technology, but when I saw interviews with technical advisors for the show who talked about realism....

Really, all they should have said was "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."

Explosions. There hasn't been a single hollywood movie that has gotten explosions right. People are standing right next to big (and little) blasts and getting knocked back a little - when in reality, they would die from all their organs liquifying.

The other guys makes a great joke about this.

Apart from the 'never reload' thing, and the general tropes that should always get dragged up.
Films also tend to portray drugs completely incorrectly. They tend to be 'you tyr any drug once and your life is ruined' when in fact drugs like marujuana and even LSD have never had any deaths attached to them. But I suppose the war against drugs can't be counteracted.

It gets better in the books, where they not only wear the metal masks, not only wear metal talons over top of their original talons, but also fly around, having dogfights, with sticks with fire at the end. Never do these sticks go out, never do they burn low enough to be useless/burn them.

Historical inaccuracy is bad.
You can't go around and rewrite history (without proclaiming so) because people will take offense in that.

Also, movies based on living or just recently deceased people. You don't just make up things they did or lines they said. It's not creative license, it usually is slander!

Computer stuff is usually cringe-worthy, examples have been named. Science as well.

One of my least favourite example is a Voyager-episode:

- First, a time-ship from the 29th century comes back to the 24th century. The voyager defeats it. I think if a single modern destroyer were to travel back 500 years in time, it would take out the whole Spanish Armada and English navy together.

- Then, the time ship crashes in 1977 and some guy salvages its parts and starts off a tech-company based on that. That's crap. If I travel back to 1426 and give some dude an iPhone, it's not gonna do sh*t to the timeline. What's he supposed to do with it? Everything in it is way beyond his comprehension. Even if he would somehow understand how it works, he couldn't replicate it, because the infrastructur is lacking. He would have to single-handedly reverse-engineer 800 years worth of manufacturing progress in his lifetime.
If you'd send a modern Core i-something CPU to an Intel engineer in 1977 - even that isn't gonna do much. If Intel were to build this CPU on their 1977 manufacturing processes, it would be as big as a flatscreen tv and cost a couple of million bucks. They knew back then that getting more transistors on the die will make it compute faster. But unless you're sending the fab too, it doesn't help them much.

- Finally, the Voyager tries to beam up that time ship from his lab and he uses the transporter beam to download stuff from their database!!! At that point I was really furious, because so much bullsh*t annoys me.

I have never seen a film that portrayed anything related to medicine right apart maybe from "people tend to use handkerchiefs if they've got the flu".
Get any scene where anyone flatlines and I can guarantee you they shocked him a maximum of two times (on Baywatch for more drama) and he was fine. Also, watch out how in hospitals no doctor ever reaches for adrenalin, atropin or in fact any medication. Paddles are so great, I don't understand how they don't treat fractures with them.

It's not so hard to get proper basic medicine facts...

You probably remember that the human body does not posses a "breast plate" you have to forcefully stab through, it's 12 pairs of ribs so if you want to get into the heart that way (for whatever sick reasons you'd like to attempt that) all you have to do is go between two ribs, probably best between 4 and 5.

The Environmentalist in The Lost World: Jurassic park 2.

Now, I support environmentalism, but this guy was freaking stupid. Basically every single death in that movie can be placed in his hands, and I think that would even hold up in a court of law. Everything didn't go to shit until he convinced the main characters they should all free the dinosaurs from their cages. After the "Evil Hunter's Camp" was ruined, everyone was basically stuck in the lifeboat of death. Ok, that was moronic, but everyone makes mistakes.... right? NO, he does it again, this time it is absolutely baffling what he does. He takes the bullets out of the Hunter's rifle, the rifle that was brought especially for the T-rex. He didn't want that guy to hunt the T-rex, ok, sure.. but this was no longer a safari hunt. That hunter was one of the few people keeping everyone alive at this point, and the chances that he would use it on the T-rex WHILE the T-rex was chasing them all was extremely likely. That turns out to be exactly what happens. Look, if you want to get these "evil poachers" killed on your own time, thats fine, but you do have innocent people on this island to. For Christ's sake there is a little kid with you, and that's no way for a kid to die.

As for the portrayal of hacking, computers, video games/gamers and all that, yeah, that's why I stopped watching NCIS. That, and the "US Marines are the greatest humans in the world" bullshit that was rampant in that show.

I wouldn't be willing to do a minute by minute of that pile of trash, but I agree about how bad it was. Changing all the races of the characters was stupid, but things like pronunciation of names drove me bonkers. Sure, Aang would be pronounced more like "Ahng" in Japanese, but the creators of the damn show and all the voice talent pronounced it "Ayng" for the entire series, so there's no excuse for Shamylamadingdong to change it. Especially since he white-washed and crapped on the cast.

The pronounciation didn't bother me that much, or that they made Saka and Katara white (and the firenation Indian?), but the fact that they tried to cram an entire season into one 90 minute movie. That has trainwreck written all over it.
